I purchased the extended brake lever for my GT...after installing and riding 70 miles with it I noticed that the brake light was constantly ON...this is an issue with next generation engine braking...you will slow MUCH faster and it is wise to give the brakes a couple of taps to let your buddies know you are slowing up...ESPECIALLY in the twisties...
Took it to MM Powersports(Yamaha dealer in Hancock, MI) Chad and I could not adjust it so the brake light would turn off...
Replaced with a standard lever and all was fine...
Judging after 125 miles, I do not believe it was necessary to have the extended lever anyway because the riding position when you corner really does not necessitate "hanging out" laterally...instead it is more of a forward lean like the Rev...

I bought the same lever and had the same problem. The stop on the end of the lever needed to be groung down a bit more to allow the light switch to open enough to shut off the lights. I recomend taking it down a little at a time until it works properly. It's a fairly simple fix. good luck

We have installed many of these levers and it appears to be somewhat of a tolerance issue varying from sled to sled. Some work fine others need a little tuning (grinding them down being the preferred method). Something else we have noticed is that when installing these is that as you tighten the nut up tight against the brake switch the nut will actually slightly preload the switch sometimes causing the light to come on (holding the switch in the opposite direction while tightening helps).
As far as needing the extended lever or not I think it comes down to each individual riders preference. I test rode the sleds last spring and one of my first feelings was that they needed a longer lever as I reached for it two or three times and just caught the very end of the stocker as I was riding with my hand out on the hook.
