O.K. guys, I'm thinking about extending my 06 Nytro to either 136 or 144. Only problem is I remember reading comments that the ProActive suspension doesn't do real well with extensions. True? Not true? Personal experiences?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Replied to your PM. The pro-active skid in the RS Nytro works great when stretched! And IMHO is the best improvement one can make on that sled.

Research that I did before stretching my 06 Nytro to 136" indicated that this mod is the starting point towards making the Pro-Active a better set-up. After almost 1000 miles in it's new form, I find that it does indeed perform better, at least as far as bridging bumps goes. Other than having to spend $$, I have not experienced any drawbacks to this change. Just for your reference (as I posted for your query in another forum), I used Tracks USA rail extensions in combination with a Muffinworks tunnel extension. Great quality from both products.

I stretched out a Apex based 121" Pro-Active skid last year in one of my sleds to a 136" with great results. Instead of using extensions, I had some custom 136" rails made. I'm sure that by using extensions you could get the same results, but I decided to go with full length rails.
I really believe that with all of the torque that these 4-strokes put out that a 136" length is the way to go, and they look better too. The overall increase in bump bridging and traction IMO will greatly enhance the fun factor of your sled.
136" or 144"? I'd go with the 136" on a Nytro unless you plan on using your sled more than 50% off trail. If you're a bigger guy, or want the ultimate traction, a 144" might be the way to go. If you want to do it right, you'll probably be looking at some shock/spring work too. Pick out a track that will best suit the snow conditions that you will be riding in the majority of the time, and sit back and enjoy your sled.
I'll second stumpers recommendation for using Muffinworks tunnel extensions and TracksUsa rail extensions. Both companies are top shelf. If you want any info on using full length rails, just shoot me a PM for more info .
Good luck on whatever you decide.

Does ~300 lbs. qualify as a "bigger guy"?
Already has the "fat boy" spring (which helped immensely, by the way). Floats are turned down to 55 lbs. as per a Yamaha rep here at one of the TY rides. Bigger sway bar. I'm pretty happy with the handling, just want more flotation for my off-trail "adventures".
Thanks for the suggestions.

buddah2.......Yes, you most certainly qualify as a "bigger guy" in my book.
This is coming from someone who weighs in about about 150.
It sounds like the 144" would be the way to go for your application. If you want to go with that length, you could also consider using the new Camoplast Cobra 1 3/8" lug single-ply 146" length that they are offering this year. I installed one recently on my extended SRX that has a monoshock skid. Since that track has a 2.86" pitch a change of drivers is needed to use it.
Let me know if you need any advice........

I'm thinking in terms of the 15 x 1.5 x 144.......basically the "old style" ski-doo track. I had a 121 x 1.5 on my 02 Viper ER for it's entire life and never had an issue with cooling, or slides, or anything. At this point it's almost entirely price dependent......other than the fact that I like to give the business to TYers whenever possible.
P.S. Are you the VX1R that used to have the tricked out black/orange Viper? Absolutely LOVED the looks of THAT bad boy...........

Let me know what you need and we can deal. I had a wreck and the Rage is a total so I need $ to get the XTX this season, if I want to ride. Didn't get to ride last season as the wife was deployed to Iraq and I moved in with my folks in Chicago so they could watch the girls for us.
