well surprise surprise. the phazer pulled off another outrageous passing i never thought in all my years i would ever hope to see... met up with some new friends, said they were into sledding and such and told me to come riding, all three of them are running 800 mountain sleds, not untypical for my area.... anyways i got nervous and thought 'crap they're gonna be waiting for me every 10k and start to get upset' never happened. infact i not only kept up i dusted the stupid artic cat m8 long track...... okay so we got to the bar and i asked the dude what his top speed flat out was...he claimed he could do 80mph and his rev limiter would hit, is this true? i've had my sled well over 80mph on several occations and still had some leg left, i asked the guy riding the polaris rmk he said about 86 but it got there so freaking fast that i had no chance of catching back up on the lake that i didn't even bother. then the guy riding the skud. he could do 110mph but he had some work done to his, i think he said a clutch kit and bottom gear, makes sence. if gearing plays that big of a role in mph and i'm still pulling within 3 lengths of the cat off the line then why the hell would anyone who is a speed junkie like these guys are buy a damn 800 mountain sled to run in the prairies, esspecially around here, we only get an annual snowfall of about 2 and a half feet? secondly i know how these things are geared and i had a hell of a time convincing these guys my sled was stock besides the clutch basically. and that deep snow gearing and clutch kits just aren't meant for saskatchewan. why aren't dealers telling people this? i see it more and more every year.... guys running huge 155 and 166 3" paddle tracks in places i have no issues at all with a 121 1.5" track? dealers need to educate riders about altitude tuning and snow condition set ups. dealers also need to ask the questions "where do you plan on riding this sled?" "what sort of rider are you? trail rider? back country rider? bushwhacker?"

so in closing my phazer rocks! as all others do i'm sure :) and i'm sure part of the reason why i led the pack today was due to their inexperience as snowmobile riders (they've been riding together for 5 years, apparently they were bored one winter and just picked this up as something to do). as well as not having the proper tuning for our area and riding conditions. sad really, three wastes of perfectly good 800cc engines.

I see that too. Lot more mountain sleds, in Wisconsin! Guys asking where the 'pow' is and wanting to do some 'carving'. We are lucky to have 3 inches of snow on the trails now with an ice base! I don't get it.
I hear ya. Glad you 'took it to em'!

I am seeing that a lot here in Iowa to but some of the people I know that own them go to Colorado for 3 weeks and that's the only riding they do. Some are big people and they don't groom trials that often. So when snow comes is all soft and the only sled doing 80 are the long track and I can only go 40 (snow not compacted). Even then you don't need a 155 to carve, I can do that with a 121. Then some people are just stupid and think they need a long track just be cause it looks cool. Long racks are usually slower and suck at turning on the packed trails.

Well rhino you only live 6-7 hours from some of the best mountains in the world to ride on Revy golden etc..

Dealers (also known as Stealers) love to sell stuff. They will push the wrong stuff just for the profit.

Also people are stupid ......they see something cool in a magazine or online, they want it too regardless.

i realize that but most guys from here don't get more then 2 or three days up in the mountains a year. it'd be cheaper for them to rent sleds when they get up there, i rent a nytro mountain sled the last two years i've been up, makes life easier and i'm not stuck with a 4300 dollar repair bill when i plow it into a tree or accidently roll it down the side of the mountain.
