I guess Im kinda dumb but here it is. I thought I was overheating. I now know I was not. ( when all else fails read the f*** book) Yesterday Im riding in 10 inches of fresh snow. My temp light comes on again!@ But wait,,, I open the hood it goes off. I close the hood it goes on, I open the hood it goes off, I close the hood it comes on. Hmmm. I reach down in the nose and pull on the cable harness it comes on, I let go, it goes off.... But this is the LOW temp coolant light! The one that blinks at warm up. I have not yet had time to find the cause but I did open up the cable housing and did not find anything obvious yet. I have 2 questions I need answered right now.

1. Does the low coolant temp light serve only that purpose?

2. In an overheat condition what lights would normally come on?

I did overheat it today in the garage while attempting yet another air bleed and to correct my coolant/water ratio. It did take quite some time and I was not suprised. In this condition I had these indicators.

Warning light -on (yellow top right)
temp indicator-on -LCD-thermometer icon
self diagnose-blinking-LCD-pipe icon-- far left icon

This site is the best. :rocks: :4STroke:

It would point to a harness or connection problem. I could undertand if it was on and off due to your water issue. But opening and closing the hood, thats a strange issue.

some of the 03 rx1s had wierd problems caused from the wiring harness rubbing through at the nose of the sled. the harness passes a sharp edge of the frame on the right side(sitting on sled), to prevent any possable problems, i took a piece of 5/8 or 3/4 heater hose abt. 6in. long, slit it lengthwise, and zip tied it on over harness. 8000mi. on mine and still holding. i dont know if the 04s or 05s are the same, but its worth checking. ;)!

Lazy, speaking of beer can holders. What are those really intended for? I would not believe Yamaha was looking in our best interest for beverages. Furthermore, I wouldn't put anything like soda or beer, you'd have to wait a while before opening them.

kevin, heres what i use mine for, have you ever seen those soda or beer cans that are really a safe that you can put things in? they are supposed to fool a burglar.the tops screw off and you can put things in them.i keep some fuses and matches and things like that in mine.we all know that the rx-1 is lacking in the storage compartments ,so any thing you can do to find extra space will help.

I use the space under the tool kit for my push rope. (i ride with a lot of cat riders)

white wires

Its not the bundle of wires, its the TWO WHITE wires... they are of VERY small guage and have absolutely no protection. They rub against a bracket down under the beer can holder.

Took a quick look today but I dont see any small white wires under there? Any hints???

hint number 1, go back and carefully read my previous post. when you said you moved the wiring harness and it temporarily fixed the problem, it means something is loose or shorting in this area. when these sleds first hit the trails, some were having problems with the harness wearing through on the frame. if you do find the problem and its not related to this area, please post your findings/fix thanks.

Tony, let us know what you find with the wires that Lazy mentioned. A few of us had that problem this past weekend.

not yet

Have not found it yet. I opened up the first 6 inches of the cable housing and left the storage cubby out of the front. I only had time to ride it about 4 miles in 2 days around my house and it has not come on yet. I did look for 2 small white wires but there are none in this bundle. There is one of a larger diameter but that is all. I do not see anywhere that the cable bundle wore through and do not see any cracked insulation on the wires yet. but I have not had lots of time . I will keep you posted.
