For those of you in the Western States, this is a great way to find out how much snow there is where you ride. Click on the link and then select the state you ride in. Then click on the red dot where you ride. Then choose "7-day (standard sensor)" and it will give you real time snow depth and temperature for the last week by the hour! You can also go into the "Snow Water Equivalent Graphs" and find out the moisture for previous years---ahhh 1997 was a great year!

Powder Blue--I'm glad you like the site. We don't have alot of snow yet (14-20"), but one of the ski resorts at 9-10,000 feet reported 64" of snow last week--they opened today. I just want to ride already!
I did some searching for you easterners, but came up empty  .

welterracer--1-2 feet of snow works ok for trail riding, but for mountain riding there are lots of rocks, fallen trees bushes etc. We usually need a good 3-4 foot base to even start riding, rocks and sleds don't mix. An average year it snows an aggregate of 30-35 feet, but it never accumulates to more than 10 to 12 feet. In 1997 we had an aggregate total of 55 feet. The best riding contions are when you have a good base with 12-18" of new. It's truly better than....well let's just say it's alot of fun!

John Dee's is certainly a good site and one that I frequent during the winter. The web cams help out too. I also use these sites to verify snowdepths:
Entire U.S.: http://lwf.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/res ... ecent.html
Upper mid-west: http://www.masweather.com/winter.html
U.S. (and Canada I think): http://www.wunderground.com/US/Region/M ... Depth.html
