I got my sled up north Friday night, unloaded it and tried to start it and she flooded out nearly immediately. I took out the plugs and ran the cylinders dry, cleaned the plugs put them back in and it did it again. So again I did the same as before. This time she backfired and caught fire inside of my K&N's and blew out my EVAC tubes. I patted her out with my hands and noticed more smoke from underneath and smelled burning plastic and being in the electrical business I new immediately it was the wiring. I stripped her down to see what was up and sure enough she melted all the way back to my starter which doesn't turn over now at all. I am not sure if the solenoid is cooked or what but I know this much for sure. It only clicks once when you turn the key and nothing else. I took it back to the dealer on Saturday morning (rotten drive there mind you!!) and my dealer freaked out. Worst part is that I just got it out of the dealer for some aahhheemm upgrade/warranty work and never even got to ride it. The biggest kick in the balls is that my warranty expired 11/29 #$%&* :o| :o| :o| See pics below!!! What happened?????

Sorry to hear about the fire Yamabluerx1. My sled runs for 10 seconds and floods out too, no fire..... yet. I did add an electric fuel pump though. Last year I heard someone had a flooded engine everytime they went up north, they installed shutoffs and that took care of it. Goodluck. Can't find your pictures of the fire. Good luck.

thats some bad luck there yamabluerx1
how much will it cost 2 be fixed and how long b4 u expect 2 be riding again (if u call it "again")
was the wiring bad b4 the fire which caused it from not starting or do u ave no idea?

Sometimes dealers will help when its shortly out of warranty. Turning it into the insurance wouldn't be worth it, the dollar amount is expensive, but not worth claiming.

Not gonna go for insurance and even though it is just out of warranty the dealer said they would bitch and scream to get it covered for me. All I know is that they pulled out 2 other sleds out of the garage and put me in fornt of fifteen other vehicles to get worked on. That is how good this dealer is. As for when I ride??? I wanna go for New Years so they are gonna bust #*$&@ to get me back on the trail. As for shutoffs I will be installing them!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't experienced a flaming Yamaha since '85 when my dad's '70 SL396 caught fire from a gas leak (tank in front of exhaust manifold) I clipped a tree on an icy trail and the steering arms broke, slicing the tank open.

After the ride I had yesterday: Gee, I wish my sled would have caught on fire, I'd let it burn. No way in h,e, double-hockey sticks I'd burn myself trying to save it.

Why was you ride so bad??

Sorry about your luck, Yamabluerx1.

I could answer that by saying: Because it's not a Polaris EDGE. or Because it's a Yamaha. But mostly because I didn't save the extra $400 dollars I spent on the Ohlins, and put it towards an M-10, EDGE, or Cat skid. It's either stiff as a board on small bumps or bottoms-out on bigger ones - no in between. The only time it rides good is on a well-groomed trail Could be setup issues???, but it's been to the dealer 3 times for that.

I was never a Yamaha die-hard, I just chose the wrong year to try. I've just been too frustrated with it to appreciate the 4-stroke bennefits. I am going to put an EDGE skid in first of the year, if not sooner. We'll see..?

If it were me, being an '03 or '04, and insured, I would've let it burn.

4 fighter I am with you on this one I forgot how bad the 03's and 04's ride on bumpy trails until Sunday got a great reminder. Its the cats A$$ on a groomed trail though I love it but I cant seem to make the suspension happy on rough trails I cant afford a M-10 or expert but I am going to start looking for a cat skid to ride on I hear they arent that hard to put in and you can use your track etc

race24x,

Talk to LICKETY SPLIT, BBY, or nhrxrider. I'm going with an EDGE instead. Good luck! ;)!
