FIRE!!!!!

Sorry Yamahblue I thought you had it all set when you took it to the dealer. I think you will find the back fire spit some gas down your evac system or something and caught the wires on fire. Hard to tell without seeing it but if it turned over until the backfire I would be surprised if it was electrical

Anyone who has not installed fuel shut-offs need to read this thread. Fuel shut offs are a must. Polaris installs them at the factory.

It caught fire first then couldn't get it to turn over. The wiring burnt. No fuel shutoffs but there will be damn quick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These sleds jiggle going down the road. Floats will allow fuel past, which means in the engine out into the air filter, etc.

EVERYONE NEEDS FUEL SHUT OFFS. PERIOD!!!
HERE IS WHY!!!

IF YOU DON'T HAVE THEM YET, GO GET THEM AND TAKE THE 5 MINUTES TO INSTALL THEM, GO TO THE HARDWARE STORE AND GET ANY LAWNMOWER SHUT-OFFS AND SOME HOSE CLAMPS TO FIT 1/4 FUEL LINES AND PUT THEM IN.

USE THEM. IT HELPS TO NOT TANK OFF AT THE END OF THE RIDE TOO.

Is this from trailering them with no fuel shutoffs?

Yes..... and I would bet the tank was full or close to full.
How do you know it was full or close to?? It in fact had just under a quarter tank so I could get to the gas station. So no luck there.

If you trailer the RX-1 with just 2 or 3 gal of gas, fuel shut offs wouldn't make a difference would they ?...

Ask JDXRXW he might know. I have no idea, But I don't have shut offs so I really don't know. I would think it doesn't but again I am not sure. Ya wouldn't think it would though. For god's sake how would ya ever get to a station if you had to trailer it empty. And why wouldn't Yamaha put shutoffs on it. :o|

Here is what I know.
-Insurance coverage is out: too much of a pain.
-The fire started first then the starter/Solenoid had its flare up
-Dealer is perplexed
-Yamaha is Waffling (warranty ran out on 11/29 and this sled has had major problems before)
-I have no shut offs (yet had under 1/4 tank of fuel)
-It has been rejetted to 165's from Freddie
-Pilots were cleaned a month ago
-No idea if floats are stuck
-And the snow in Michigan is deep and I am PISSED!!!!!!!!!! #$%&*

I have owned Yammie sleds since 1997. I have trailered them thousands of miles with full tanks of fuel. .I have never installed a fuel shut off valve.I have never had an issue with a flooded sled after trailering!!!

Yamaha used to have a automatic fuel shutoff back in the late '80's and early '90's. How did that work, or was it a marketing scheme?

I don't know much about shutoffs but I will be installing them regardless just in case. Dealer said he thinks it had nothing to do with it.
