Why use a lathe when all it really is is a shaft that turns... and its already on one?
So I assume you performed this mod to your own sled? Please, enlighten me with your mechanical and engineering prowess, and explain exactly how you performed the procedure, and what tools/instruments you used, and exactly where you "shaved" your clutches.
I would take it back to the dealer and make them make it right. You would want them to know about this problem from the start incase it gets worse or YOU dont slove it. For $10,000. I would want it to be perfect...

Ken, can you give me information regarding the Yamaha gloves? I just bought a pair and I hope they are great. What actually happened with them?

They just seem to absorb water rather than repel it. We were riding in very warm conditions so all snow melted on contact to the gloves. They might have been better in colder weather but I don't know If I want to take that chance.
