as was posted haliburton forest in ontario is open and i put 100 miles on my 05 rx 1 on sunday. a little history i had a 03 rx1 completley stock except for a 9818 cammo 1.25 track and difference between the two sled is incredible! i,m going to go do some observations especially for setup and riding the sled for the new guys. i,m six feet tall and in riding gear about 210 lbs. the rear skid had the rear shock ski load set at no.4 and transfer rod set between minimum and standard .the front skis were set at standard preload. transfer was just right it would pick-up the front end and when you backed off the throttle it would drop back down great for cornering. you new guys use the engine braking for setting up going around corners. rear suspension i started with the adjuster in the middle and then gradually worked it to full soft. there wasn,t to much rough stuff but what i noticed was the seat just got softer without the suspension really dropping down (example f7 ) really different but in a good way. watch adjusting the clicker on corners or you could be in the trees! one thing i did notice you could hear the exhaust on this sled i think it is because the windshield is higher. the wind shield gives real good protection and the higher seat is nice. that ripsaw is incredible not only on hookup but also on corners. the stock skis were suprisingly good on the gromed trails but there was some side trails with about six inches of fresh snow and that is where the weight of the sled with the stock skis push the sled . the skis also dart a little on the trails. as for as driving the sled through corners and on the trails in feels really light still smiling! i going to set the preload to no3 next time out on the rear suspension and i,m waiting for some real rough stuff to try out this suspension. one final note i was with two buddys one on a fusion and one on a 05 f7 they lined up against each other from rolling starts and they were dead even and the then i lined up against the fusion and we were dead even! brand new sleds no studs 100 miles on each stock a little premix in the two strokes and the four stroke with only a 100 miles! temperature was arund 20 degrees.

I wouldn't be too happy if I was the fusion guy cause your engine will loosen up way more than his will.

fusion

mighty i know i was surprised because my buddy had a o3 f7 when i had my 03 and he used to blow me away when we ran and he said the 05 felt strong in the mid range just like the 03

fxr,

What rpms was it running wide open?

I'm hoping to get mine on some trails this weekend.

Good post FXR. I think there are quite of few of us 03/04 RX-1 guys wanting to know more about suspension settings on the 05 based on actual ride results. I am really interested to hear about weight transfer settings and the impacts on ski lift. Please continue your posts.

settings

suisse sledder every time i went softer with the clicker it was like sitting in a comfortable chair the more you settled into the chair the better it got and it didn,t seem to bother the handling at all. it was great maybe scooby can explain it better he put more miles on then me. like i said in my first post i,m going to try the preload at no3 . it would be interesting to see from scooby,s report about the preload settings from there group 105 to 275 that is a huge difference. i know he said that they were set for factory specs. we will find out when more reports come in that what,s great about this site.

fxr I am about 200 lbs nude. I started at preload 4 and the clicker adjuster at 3. It was great. I then set the preload to 3 and the clicker at 9 and got a simular ride (great). I will leave it at this setting because it gives me more range of adjustment with the clicker. The transfer is set at normal. I have Simmons skis with 6 inch Bergstrom carbides on both sides and a 1/4 inch ski saver under each wear rod. This increases the effective keil by 1/4 inch and reduces push in loose powder over hard pack.

The wife is 110 and her preload is at 1 and her clicker is at 10. I adjusted her ski springs 3 turns softer. The transfer is set at normal. She has standard Simmons skis with 4 inch Bergstrom carbides on both sides.

I hope this helps.

Dave

With all the early season reports on all the new sleds, there seems to be alot of differing reports over how well the new F7s, Fusions and MachZs are performing and handling. One thing that seems to be very consistent however, are the awesome reports filtering in on the new 05 RX1's. Everyone is glowing about the new suspension and hookup. I am psyched, cuz I'm loading mine in my new trailer, and hooking it to the wifes new Armada and north we go on Sunday

Thanks. This is consistent with the magazine articles talking about how the rear suspension adjustment is independent of weight transfer. I just get concerned reading some of the other reports talking about there was too much ski lift and I want to get the weight transfer setup right the first time.

I will tell ya, my RX hooks up like crazy. The Mono RA has the right kind of wieght transfer.
