Since I posted First Ride - Sort Of I figured I would post how I found the Venture after really riding it. To sum the machine up in one word I would have to use 'effortless'. As a touring machine it is effortless in how performs these duties. Sort of like the Cadillacs of years gone by - big, plush with lots of power.

I was able to run 250 km this past weekend over 2 days as my first real time on the sled. I was extremely pleased with the sled. The engine is a real runner even though I was breaking it in. The torque & how quick it is amazed me. I can't wait till I can really see what she can do. The ergos, handling & suspension suit me just fine with the factory settings and I was comfy & in control at all times. A lot of people complain about the hand/thumb warmers but I found them just fine and I was riding in weather that ranged from -7 to -15 with light work gloves on.

Now there were things that I didn't like about the sled. The footholds are not that big. Even though people go on about how quiet the motor is I found that between 4500 & 5500 rpm there is a noise, almost like some sort of a vibration, that I found quite irritating since most of my riding was at these rpms. It is really hard to explain this noise but it is a raspy noise that comes in over the sound of the exhaust/motor. Maybe it is a normal noise, I don't know, but if it is it will take a lot of getting used to. I will have it checked to see if its some sort of a vibration when I go for a service. I have the noisy gas tank neck that others have complained about here on the site and am interested in what they are doing for this.

Overall though it is a really nice sled and I see many years of enjoyment coming from it.

Yeah, the footwells are indeed pretty small. I wear big Sorel Glaciers and they barely fit inside the footholds.

The noise you hear around 5000rpm is normal. I can't tell if it is clatter from the clutch or just valvetrain / intake noise resonating at that rpm range.

Well if is normal then its going to be a real PITA! Other thing that I didn't like is that I found the handlebars a tad low for me. I looked at moving them forward but there isn't really enough room to allow for this.

I installed Rox 2" adjustable risers. The bars can be adjusted just the way you like it.

No extension is needed on the cables. ;)!

No offence Sean but you are putting too much into your first rides, ride it for a bit and get used of it give it a little bit..I did the same thing hoped on my new sled and started to worry if I made a mistake or if it was broken I was hearing noises, handled like crap and didn't seem to fit me well...I made some adjustments put some real miles on it and now I don't notice the same stuff that I did at first..Sure you are going to do things to change it a bit but after you get used to it you will love it.....

I have put another couple of hundred klicks on the sled & the engine just amazes me. I am bringing the revs up higher & spending more time on the throttle plus some full throttle and it is just amazing to me. This thing hauls a$$. I can't wait for an opportunity to hold it down for a while to see what it maxes out at. Downside is still the noise that I mentioned above. One of the main reasons that I bought the 4-stroke was that it was suppossed to be so quiet and I feel that I was led astray on that one because I was expecting more. What I expected was the same experience noise wise from riding my quad or motorcycle plus track noise. I am really disappointed as the majority of my riding is done between 4500 & 5500 & the noise sucks.

Suspension, handling & ergos still suit me right from the factory. Only thing is the height of the bars & Hondo put me on to the riser that should help me out there.

The noisy gas cap is also a real big PITA.

I like the sled overall.

sean What track is on your sled. that is right where the ripsaw makes that nasty #*$&@ howl noise. That is why my warrior now has a preditor, the ripsaw noise was mind numbing, at least for those with a mind, for me it was just iratating. LOL Maxdlx

I think that the only real "quiet" 4-stroke is the Arctic Cat without the turbo. It's just a car engine in there.

Max the track is the stock Ripsaw. I have no issue with track noise.

Anyway the snow is going pretty fast here today. Its plus 7 and raining. What a shame as it was shaping up to be one great season & it actually looked like some grooming would happen in the next week or so. Oh well I guess it will snow again sometime.
