I'm replacing a 02 Viper I had for 3 seasons which was a great sled.
I bought a 2006 nytro 2 weeks ago with 3500miles on it.It looks awesome with the flames on the black hood with the yellow pipes exiting the rear. I finally got to ride it today for the first time.
All I can say is WOW! I love this machine! The torque is addictive and the ride is outstanding. It corners wicked and when you get on the throttle you can't help but giggle in your helmet and hold on for dear life.
My Viper was a faster sled but I can honestly say I don't care. Top speed isn't everything and it is only the rare occasion in the Highlands of Cape Breton that you can hold a machine wide open for any longer than 20 seconds. The corner to corner fun is non stop. I had to remind myself as I hung off the side in the endless corners of back country that I have only been on this sled for 2hrs and I felt so comfortable with it.
Yamaha really did their home work on this one.
I know most of you guys are riding much newer machines than my 06 but this is like a Mercedes compared to my old one.
It drove home why I love YAMAHA so much!!!

wireman, I moved this here. Your 06 is an RS Nytro and you posted in the FX Nytro section. Common mistake LOL! I rode one st the demos and was impressed. BUT, the Attak I purchased has been an outstanding machine. Glad you like yours though!!

I like mine too. Its still fun. Alittle more time for set-up and to get acustomed to it and you'll like it even more. Sure all those newer machines are nice but none of them are any lighter than the RS nytro. She might be overshadowed by the newest iron but there is alot of goodness there.

my 06 has a little over 5000 miles on it and it's still fun to ride, have had to replace some stuff underneath and do a little welding, and some different skis, but we have beat this thing to death, and it's never left us stranded

I've got just over 10,000 miles on my '06, with no plans to replace it any time soon. I also came from an '02 Viper, and there is no comparison. The Nytro blows the Viper away in every aspect except for top speed. I definitely know what you mean about giggling in your helmet. I often catch myself grinning from ear to ear on a nice stretch of winding trail. I put a 136 M-10 under mine before last season, and as much as I liked it before, I like it that much more now. It is, without question, my favorite sled ever, and considering it's probably the last new sled I'll ever get for under $7500, I'll be enjoying it for a few more years!

my 07 does everything i want it to. plan on putting alot of miles on it. can't see myself replacing it any time soon.

I plan on keeping mine for a long time as well. But I'd like to hear from someone who owns an rs nytro and has ridden an fx nytro as to how our sleds compare. I've never had the chance to demo an fx (dealers around here use demos as their personal sleds). I'm curious about the handling differences and the weight or perception of.

I traded an '06 RS Nytro for an '08 FX Nytro. Here's my take.

'06.... 1. more comfortable for me (I love the Deltabox & DB II chassis, that's why I got rid of the '08 FX for a '10 Vector)

2. much easier to work on under hood, when work was needed

3. carburetors SUCK compared to FI

4. rode nice, handled really good. rear suspension bottoms too easy.

5. power is nothing compared to FX Nytro

FX Nytro.... 1. power/throttle response is INSANE.

2. the power makes the sled feel lighter, but I know better

3. the suspension can handle anything you throw at it. I never bottomed the sled out, but I didn't jump anything over 3-4' high either.

4. cold, Cold, COld, COLd, COLD!!!!!!! I added the tall shield & side skirts. It helped, but didn't cure the problem. Then the GD thing wouldn't fit in my clamshell trailer with out taking the "hood/windshield" assy off everytime I trailered. :o|

5. comfortable for awhile, but didn't like it the more I rode it

6. handles like a schoolbus until much time/effort/money is spent on suspention settings, duall runners, different skis. Once I got it setup for my taste, it was decent for me, but anyone who rode it didn't like it.

Knowing what I know now, I would have never gotten the FX & probably would still have the '06 RS.
