- 2009 Yamaha Phazer RTX
This week we were in Hurley Wisconsin to ride and was finally able to ride my 09 RTX with the mods I made since last winter. I installed a Tracksusa 136 extension and Free ride track. It doesn't feel much different, it certainly hooks up 100% better than the 121 model. I did lose some top end, but that's not really a concern to me I often see high 70's to mid 80's. I also installed Fett Bros Canister 2's. These made the stroke on the floats noticeably longer and softened the ride - I will need to pump them to about 70 lbs to get it to corner flatter, but I am close. The simmons skis are excellent trail skis and the turning effort is noticeably less than C & A's which is what I was using prior. C & A's are more commanding in the corners, but the Simmons get you where you are going as well. It took about 130 miles on the Ulmer Clutch kit to really see the difference - I'm sure the new primary springs needs a chance to wear in, but after that, it was certainly there and would pull all the way into the 60's. The only place the rest of the pack could get away from me was once we got past 65 mph then they were gone. I was intending on building a crossover from the phazer rtx to suit my riding style, and I think I did that. I need to play with my suspension setup, as i'm running a similiar setup to what I ran on my FX, and I may start over and go a different direction. I did notice the motor running better and the machine got noticeably faster around 265 miles.
I did have a chance to drive a Nytro XTX, an AC Z1 Turbo and a Crossfire 1000. The Z1 Turbo was sick, and i can't imagine someone saying they needed more power at 180 hp. The Crossfire was a nice sled, but had a burble when you got on the throttle but the sled was not broke in when i rode it, so that will probably go away. i rode my son's new nytro XTX and it was the funnest sled i rode all weekend - it was fast, pulled hard, sucked up the bumps.

I forgot about the polaris wheel mod - I replaced the front skid wheels with Polaris 5.35 wheels inside and out and then also added a set of yamaha wheels in the rear outside of the skid - all in all I believe this has corrected the hyfax wear issue - we rode dozens of miles on forest rodes and while i could smell the hyfax, there is no noticeable wear on them at this point and i have more than 500 mile son them,

are the wheels the same shaft diameter or do you swap everything including the mount ???
Nice write up Joe. I am going to try to get the phazer John just took in next Saturday for my wife to try. If she likes it I'll probably have a ton of questions for you about phazers. I think that would be a good sled for her to start out on.
I am trying to arrange a TY ride out of the area Feb. 19-21. If it is a go, would you be interested in trying to help guide?
I'm heading to Houghton after work tonight with the new XTX my friend just bought from John. I should get a chance to try it out this weekend. Hope I don't get too much lake effect on the drive out there.
Happy new year.

i replaced the front small wheels in the suspension - i had to take 5 mm off each side of the cross mount with a grinder -Jeremy said:woolyviper said:I forgot about the polaris wheel mod - I replaced the front skid wheels with Polaris 5.35 wheels inside and out and then also added a set of yamaha wheels in the rear outside of the skid - all in all I believe this has corrected the hyfax wear issue - we rode dozens of miles on forest rodes and while i could smell the hyfax, there is no noticeable wear on them at this point and i have more than 500 mile son them,

they get away a little bit on the forest roads, but not that bad considering who I was riding with. we didn't do any off trail riding, we didn't have time to go looking for the designated areas. probably go to michigan next time for the off trail stuff.cannondale27 said:Wow awesome!Sounds like you had a great time. How was it riding with all that Big Iron?Did you keep up?Do any off trail riding?
