Hey guys,
I ride in michigan, no mountains but a lot of off trail riding in 12-30" of powder.
I was wondering how you guys like your sleds set up for deep snow - do you dial up the front springs since the ski's are floating most of the time?

How about the center spring - or does this not make much difference?

Finally, do you run with a swaybar or not?

Thanks for the comebacks in advance.

Oh yeah, I'm using a RS Venture 144" 1.25 as my crossover sled...

as true powder in MI is rare, I always run the sway bar. I do soften up the springs as much as the small amount of trail riding will allow, unless there is a lot of jumping planned for the day. My center springs have little to no prelaod on them, and liniter straps are pulled up 1 hole if at all. Simmons skis work better than the Yamaha Mtn skis on trail, and the Mtn skis work better for me off-trail.

My time spent riding trails is limited to getting to and from the play areas. Here's my setup;

I run without the anti-swaybar. The preload collars on my front springs are about 1/2" from max. My limiter straps are set for full extension with the middle spring preload set at medium. The rear preload is set to full soft. FYI, you can just remove a bolt from a link on either side to nullify the effects of the bar while off trail and connect when you get back on the trail. For a ski with trail manners similar to a simmons and the floataion of the wider mountain skis; check into a set of PPD X-MT skis. To view the skis, see my attachments in this thread on pg 2 & 3 http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=27847&start=15 .

I am wondering about clutching and jetting.

A few years ago went to the black hills with my two stroke and it was a major difference in elevation and needed to be jetted and clutched.

With my turbo sled, my hh are loaded and the jetting is for 500-1000' A.S.L.

Should I expect to do major changes to run out there?

(I run a 1-1/4x136 studded track and plan on changing it out with a 2x136 track.

What will the elevation difference be for you? I ride here at the hose when there's snow (elev. 3100') and normally ride from 6800'-10,900' in the Cooke City, Mt area.

In my SC @ 10 lbs boost; I run the 8FA-00 weights with 4.5g solid steel in the heels and 3.6g steel with hole in the tips, stock '03 RX-1mtn primary spring and the stock helix in the secondary with a pink spring twisted to 70 degrees. The sled will over rev here at home if I don't pay attention. In Cooke City it will hit 10,300 on hardpack and usually runs around 9800 while climbing in deep powder. My A/F never varies through out the throttle range more than .4 between here and there either so I don't even mess with the carbs.

Based on my findings; you should be ok with A/F settings. You might want to pull a little weight out of the primary to keep the revs up.

That is what I was thinking also. I can definately pull a little weight. Take a couple hours of my trip and wrench and get it fined tunned.

I wasnt sure about the carbs. Sounds like most of the guys are about the same jets in the turbo section no matter were they are from. (minor changes)

I am loaded up on my hh and have to work hard to get 10,200.

I need to get some weights that are easily tunable; instead of being such a tighta$$. Right now I just watch the tach close to keep from over spooling the blower. I was thinking about a primary spring with softer finish rate to pull the high revs down rather than mess with drilling out and inserting solid steel rivets in my tips.

I want a shockwave adjustable helix though also. Need to win the Powerball lottery so I can "feed this addiction" :drink: .

nice hijack.

Anyway, thanks for the responses guys. I meant to put the word "deep" in quotes, as 36 inches is about as deep as it usually ever gets here.

Thanks for letting us ride.

I am in the middle of getting the clutching right locally, I need to come out there so I can really turn my brain into mushhhhhhhhhh. :drink:
