I'd like to know if you guys are finding the need to shim the pilots, and if so how thick of shims. Also i tried calling dealers around me (wi) for availability for them and every time they punch in part #860200166 for upgrade kit it shows freestyle ski instead. Anyone else have this problem. Thanks for any info.

I shimmed the back of the rubber with an additional 1/4" piece of rubber belting, even though they point up with using nothing, they still have a tendency to dart. It darts less then stock skis with single carbides, but darts way more then stock skis with doolys. I have now added Bergstrom 8" carbides with 3/8" ski shims to help with darting. Hopefully this will cure it. Yes that # shows them being the freestyle ski kit. I ultimately went to 6.9 pilots for the added floatation which they do very well.

I have had the pilots for two years now. I find that under certain conditions (a lot of sleds running pilots on the trails i'm riding) there is minimum darting. Just road 300 miles last weekend in the UP and no darting what so ever, I give them an excellent rating in the conditions we rode in last weekend. I just purchased 7.5" shaper bars that I will be using this weekend. I even trimmed the rear top of the rubber bumper to alleviate some of the rear downward ski pressure.

I initially installed my pilots w/o shims and they darted a little, but not bad. After 2000+ miles I have added 1/4 shims to the rear of the rubber and the darting is almost completely eliminated. I would highly recommend the shims!

Its crazy how opinions differ on this site.. if have had very few times where my pilots darted.. other guys in the group would be ranting about how there skis darted, and mine was just barely darting..

No shim here.. i guess every setup is different..

No shims either...very small amount of darting. The stock skis w/doolys didnt dart but also ddnt carve/corner/steer near as well as the pilots. I will live with some minor darting. I have my transfer rod set 2 lines past the standard mark which eases some ski pressure and I usually have the flpper pinned...lol.

you get tight conditions, and follow all these DOOS around, you are gonna dart!!!...

softer looser conditions the pilots will barely ever dart IMO...

Im not shimmed...just stock DOO bumper and i can live with it.

The 6 inch shapers work well.

UPDATE..

I was riding the other night with 4 friends of mine... all of them complained about horrible darting..

I NOTICED NONE..

I had just installed new carbides.. (AND WAS LEADING)

Im guessing i was causing the darting.. LOL

Stuck them on my 07 Attak GT. Have not really noticed any darting thus far but only have 375 miles on the sled so far. No shims but have the doo rubbers.

I have 800 miles on my Apex GT. 300 with stockers and 500 with Pilot 5.7s. Darting is better but is not gone, as darting with never be gone completely. Groomed trail cornering was improved and steering effort is light. I used no shims just the stock ski-doo rubber piece. I do see the gap in the front on top that could get packed with snow, but it hasn't with trail riding.
