I'd like to change over to Amsoil. For those of you who used it, did anyone not like the results. I have 2141 miles and only one oil change and now its time for the second. I am a dealer and have used their products in my vehicles.

No problems at all. I love the stuff. Starts easier and I think runs better, although I can't prove it.

Amsoil

I have used amsoil since 1992 in all of my two strokes and outboards and vehicles. I have used 0w-40 Ams in my rx-1 since it had 2000 mi. I know that the cold weather starting is improved with amsoil because I've seen it. My sled now has 9200.mi. and used no oil all last season and still looks clean. As far as I'm concerned its the only way to fly. Slim-03 rx-1 w/ 136 m-10 ohlins frt & rear.

The old fart gang uses it exclusively and it is great. Some have over 13,000 and don't use any oil.

At the first of the season with 2200 miles I started with amsoil and I installed ecp's. Oil consumption went from less than 1 quart for a 1000 miles to about 400. At 3000 miles I switched to mobil 1 10-30 , useage was slightly less. I'm not shure if it's the oil now or the crank case not set up with the evac. I built a evac but didn't drive enough miles to make a judgement due to I destroyed the sled in a crash.

Used it in bolth warriors. I have ran 3000 miles without a change and it dident use any oil it was still on the full mark.

Starts better and runs smoother.

I will always use ams-oil in these sleds swiched at 500 miles according to the ams-oil tech there were no concerns on doing this.

Mine uses oil, and starts the same. I saw a post in the beginning of the season, that it makes the gears quiet. That's a joke. Mine rattles very loudly at idle.

Who can give a clear explanation of Yamaha's oil requirement(s)?
The Owners Manual calls for nothing rated higher than API "CD" and "NO OILS LABELED ENERGY CONSERVING". ???
According to API, "CD" is an older (now obsolete) Diesel motor oil rating (now CF(-2or -4), CG-4), or CH-4). What's up with that? Yamaha's 5w-30 4-stroke oil is API rated 'SJ' so that is not in line with the Owners Manual.

What are the API ratings for AMSOIL?
Has anyone else used Mobil1? I would prefer it - if only because it is more widely available than AMSOIL.
Thoughts?

Amsoil

You guys should use any type of oil you want. You ask questions about a topic and when you don't hear all the answers you want you down talk the information that was posted. By the way, how can you call yourself a yooper when you live in Marion mi? later ,slim

Slim,
Sorry, I was trying to be humorous, and at the same time cast doubt on outrageous claims. I just don't think a motor is going to run smoother after a change of oil, the change to synthetic chaincase oil is going to make a chain run quieter, or using graphite slides will make the track run quieter. Those are just a few of the many claims I hear. I hope you aren't saying I shouldn't comment on claims that I have reason to believe are not fact. How are we going to learn without hearing more than one opinion. You've heard guys saying that the reason for them not using oil, is because of a hard break-in, and another says it's because of his gentle break-in. How can they both be right?

My neighbor in the youpee (I have a home there), has a small Toyota pickup with 380,000 miles, and no motor problems. He uses regular oil. He could make a claim that the long life is due to the fact that he doesn't use synthetic. My other neighbor had 220,000 trouble free miles on a Chevy van. He uses Quacker State. I believe the same thing would have happened with any quality oil.

The main thing our group noticed with the 0-40 Amsoil is that the motor turned over easier on below zero mornings and that the rattle on start up seemed less and for a shorter duration. I beleive that the cold starts can be very harmful.

One fellow in our group uses 5-20 Penzoil, standard auto oil, and has tons of miles with no problem, but it does rattle a lot on cold mornings.

This season our group will be installing the water heater by Yamaha. We intend to use it when ever possible in cold weather. I also made a compact plug expander and a compact 50' cord to carry in each sled so we can reach the service provided at the motels and daisy chain our sleds together.

Hey VT....Try Bob Miller He has used Mobil from Day 1. Send him a PM. He's a good guy and should give a good report on it.

I had my oil changed at 400 miles, went with Yamalube. At 2400 miles going to change it again. The only time I used any oil is after towing in a sled. It happened twice this season, each time I had to put in a quarter of a quart. I really don't know how low it was, just that the light came on, who can read that #$%&* ing dipstick anyway. The light went out and it didn't come back on until I towed in another sled. I put Mobile 1 in my Tahoe in the fall, engine would knock at start up, went back to regular Valvoline.
