What is it that happens when a plug "fouls"? Is it fuel, oil, or can it be both. What happens to the spark? Does it get grounded out before it jumps the gap or does it not make it through the plug at all? All this because I have an older 2 stroke that will foul plugs on restarting a luke warm engine. Spray them off with carb cleaner and away we go.
What i understand is that a semi-conductive byproduct build up on the ceramic tip. Such deposits, which can actually get to a certain level of deepness, will shunt a portion or the entire amount of energy produced by the HV coil to the frame. Result is a weak or no sparks.
Partial combustion, contaminated fuel and additives, plugs too cold are just few reasons to promote semiconductive deposits. Usually, 2 stroke engines are more prone to this phenomenon as they burn exotic oil at lower peak flame temperature.
Can a plug be washed up in carb cleaner and does its job again ? ..probably if it was not too bad, or deep inside. But if the source problem still is, then it will only last a shorter time than a new one.
