I had my carbs off to clean and also to drill out the pilot screw plugs. Got everything back together and hooked up and then I synced the carbs. I found a small screw next to my sled that looks exactly like the slotted phillips screws that I was adjusting to sync the carbs. These are the screws that adjust the carb opening on top of the throttle rail. There are two to adjust. Where did this third one come from? I cant see anything in the parts diagrams that reference another screw like this. Any ideas?

This screw is extremely clean, as if it were dropped from the sky. I located it not far from the oil filter access panel, which I had removed. I am wondering if it is indeed an adjust screw for the carbs that was lost during assembly or dealer prep. But it seems like it would be dirty if it had spent the past 8 years somewhere in the belly of my sled.

no man, the extremely clean gave it away, i know that feeling and it definitely came from somewhere in the carbs. it sucks but id take it apart again, 8 years of rattling around you would definitely be able to tell it would be sanded right down

The thing is, I had the carbs apart in the basement and reassembled there too. The only thing I did in the garage is disconnect fuel and coolant lines to the carbs, the throttle and choke cables, and the 2 electrical connections. What else takes a slotted phillips gold colored screw? Maybe I will pull them off again.

is it brass or a steel screw?

Well, it is at least coated to appear somewhat yellow and shiney. Plus there appears to be some small amount of corrosion or rust on the head. My file says it is a hard material. The finish comes off to reviel bright metal like stainless. Definitely not brass.

I think that screw came from a clamp on my trouble light. It was located where I was using my light by the sled, and today I noticed the missing screw and loose clamp. But man, it looks exactly like the carb sync screws on my sled. Really freaking wierd.

Well that would make sense. They do use those type of machine screws on them trouble lights.
