Front track shock removal on iqs sustems

So I've got a reservoir front track shock that I'm going to replace my mono shock with

The suspension is iact/iqs model. Pulling that front track shock has never been easy and I always have to use a box end as I cant get a ratchet on it. Thus requiring me to pull the skid.

Has anyone ever replaced the shock without pulling the skid?
 
I've done a couple in place and it wasn't that bad to do on my lift. I believe that I may have loosened the front straps to change out the shock with the rear of the sled in the air to stretch out the suspension. I put a set of Elkas in last time that went well.
 
I think it is pretty easy to do . I have done it a bunch of times in chassis.
Remove the wheels and mounts
I don't remove the limiter straps BUT I do take out the bar the straps are connected to. Makes life easier. Also allows you to pull the rails apart a bit when imijigging the lower shock shaft out.
To reinstall that bar, put a block of wood under the front shock and lower the sled to compress the front skid until you can put the bolts back into the bar.
Good time to upgrade lower shock shaft and lower shock bushing.
 
I don't remove the limiter straps. I take of the out and inner wheels off up front to allow access to the lower shaft bolts. Remove the lower shaft bolts on the out side of the rail. Use rubber hammer and tap shaft to the back of sled to release some preload, then remove the upper shock eye bolts. Then twist the lower axel with shock front to back and pull it out of the rail on the bottom and then the shock should come right out.
 
Never hurts to cut a length of 2x4 or whatever you have on hand a 1/4 inch longer than the rail to rail measurement to keep the rails spread while you do this stuff so the rails don't get scratched!

That is one reason to remove the bar that the straps are attached to, it allows for a spreading of the rails and removal of the shock shaft without scratching the piss out of the rails.
 
So I just ended up pulling the suspension but now I have questions.

I got this shock at the last chance sale last spring.

I went to install it today and I ran into some issues.
1)The bolt is smaller than the hole
2)There is a spherical bearing in this vs the bushing that was on the original

So I will need to pull the bearing out and it looks like the RR parts should work

But has cat changed the eyelets over the years?

I put that bushing in mine but I cut and old lower center shock cross shaft and installed that chunk in there instead of the large chunk.
 
So I just ended up pulling the suspension but now I have questions.
