Fuel Line shut offs

Hi, I'm trying to put a shut of in my fule line on a 05 rx-1. There are 2 lines coming from the tank. I'm wondering if they are both supply or if one is a return? If any one knows I would apreciate some help.

still snow in the bush but bare anyware the sun shines, still lots of ice so the sled is on the truck ready to go. did 120 miles lake running on saturday.

Here's what I used you will need 2 of them 1 on each line, you can get these from any small engine repair shop for a few bucks each and being plastic they won't freeze up and are very lite...

Those shutoff valves will work perfectly. I put them on my 03 RX1 to shutoff the fuel while trailering. I wanted to be sure I could trailer the sled with a full gas tank and not flood the engine. This has worked fine.

Right on thanks for info guys. I had a brass shut off, but it was fairly big and heavy. I think I'll look for a few of those plastic ones.

What I have found is even though I had fuel shut off valves and close them and run the engine until it dies, there is still a small amount of fuel which remains in the bowls of the carbs. Less fuel means it evaporates quicker and gums up sooner.

If you want to shut of the fuel to trailor the go for it and that is a good idea although I have never had a problem on sleds that did not have a fuel cut off.

If you are trying to run the carbs dry for summer storage then I dont think that works very well.

Well that was one of the reasons I was putting them on, summer storage The other is trailering. Does any one else have any experiance with this. Witch is the best way to store a sled, carbs full or empty? This is my first sled with carbs, and I'm not sure. I think yamaha recomends draining all the fuel, don't they?

Carbs empty is the best way but I was just saying that you can not get them completely empty by using the fuel shutoff valves. You will have to drain the remaining gas from the bowls to be sure you get them empty.

I gotcha. Thanks for the info I think I'll be doing that this weekend since it is going to be 27oC here, likley won't get any more sleding in ;(

remove airbox, place rag under float bowls and drain fuel. remove 2 fuel lines from carb side of fuel pumps. with drain screws open, use compressed air in fuel lines to blow out fuel from carbs. this removes all fuel. tighten all drain screws. leave fuel lines disconnected and next season fill carbs and lines with fresh gas, and reconnect lines. sled will start quickly without lots of cranking. use a small funnel that fits into fuel line.

Never needed them, and I have a lot of trailer miles with full tanks of fuel. I believe in KISS.

But, these valves are the best ones I have seen for doing this. However, you want to make sure you get ones rated for handling Fuel. I have seen some very similar looking valves that would not hold up to gas and heat, for very long. Our fuel lines are in a very bad place for leaks (i.e. right over the exhaust pipes.)
