Anticipating a problem and looking for a fix. My 07 VL refused to start a few days ago at a lodge NE of Sudbury. The hairdryer trick worked and we ran fine for 2 days. To be sure I had the lodge owner pick up a new fuel relay from the local Sudbury dealer, but we didn't install it as yet.

Considering its -26c this morning here in Sunbridge, we might have to swap out the relay, but if it doesn't work (no clicking) how do we identify it? There seems to be a few similar relays sitting there. Any chance you can share some wisdom on this? Also is it possible to do it without removing the battery? Anyone have a picture?

Thanks. Georgian Bay Guy.

Unfortunately, the position seems to change from one sled to another but is usually in the top row. The relay should still click but if not, go by the wire colour. Check the manual for that. It can be done withoutremoving the battery but will be harder to get at. Did it at the cottage a coupleof years back in -25c. Not fun but doable.

Moose man

Thx, I sort of figured as much from other posts. Hard to tell the correct one when it doesn't click! I've got a 9 am appointment with a new to me dealer (5 star Yamaha) in the morning who is going to do it for me in his warm shop. Better safe than sorry. Also putting in a new battery so I won't have to dick around with the bodywork again this winter.

This machine is for my wary wife and it has to go and run near to perfect as she thinks sleds are prone to breaking down and that its a matter of when not if. The relay would have been a big setback if the hairdryer was needed.

Thanks Mooseman. I just did mine. The relays are behind the battery. I removed the left bolt and right nut holding the battery bracket, bent the whole assembly forwards about 2 inches, reached behind and pulled the third from the left relay (I hope this was the right one!!!). I used an awl type screwdriver (pointy end) to pry up the tabs on either side and slide the relay off and out. Went just fine once I figured out how to do it.
