Keep in mind there is no set rule for the intake air temp/knock relationship. In my experience MS16 with a 3 bar sensor and upgraded blow off valve and no boost leaks will run 17.5-17.8psi of boost and MS17 will run 17.8-18.2psi. So boost levels are very similiar but ms17 is a more powerful tune likely due to a more aggressive timing curve. So with both tunes running at similiar IAT's the ms17 would likely have timing retard due to knock sooner than ms16 and need higher octane gas for extended full throttle runs. I never saw more than .2 or .3 degress of timing retard on ms16 running 91 octane gas and this was usually on very long back to back wot runs . This is minimal and a very long ways away from kicking the knock light on so Id be willing to bet there would have been zero degrees of timing retard using 93 octane. MS17 pulls timing much much sooner.number1kyster brought it my attention that IAT's become unmanageable during sustained runs of 16+psi of boost. Probably less, just picked a number.
Which it turn causes detonation, which in turn pulls timing.
Searching threads, the conclusion seems to be @ 90-100° of air temp will cause this to occur.
Your temporary solution is to add boostane. Is that correct??If that's the case, what octane numbers seemingly resolved this issue at the given psi of 16-17psi?
Generally, I ride in 5 to 25°F temps. Mostly 15-20°F
I understand there's an underlying issue.

Well, there is one rule that seemingly will cause the system to trigger....higher ambient temps.
Well, I've did the intake clamps mod & everything else is tight and seem in order. The bov will become suspect soon enough.
MS16 can get up in boost. Especially with high flo muffler & Cai. I'll need to invest in 3bar & bov sooner than later.
I'm just trying to review & prepare for differing scenarios.

You must be buying the 32oz containers?!?! I found the small 4oz boostane shots but, and get this, $100 for 40oz. Lol ..yeah, I'll pass.I have found empty sea foam cans dont leak when used for this.
I probably should invest in the 32oz container. Food for thought.

I have used the small red fuel bottles used by campers/ back packers. Only issue is the rubber o ring that seals it wears out and gets out of wack over time. The best I found was to use the sea foam bottle. Get yourself a small funnel for filling sea foam bottle as the boostane is expensive and stinks!! Think lantern fuel funnel. The small yellow one used for filling lanterns.

MS16 is a stock muffler tune. I personally wouldn't be running it with a hi flow muffler.Well, there is one rule that seemingly will cause the system to trigger....higher ambient temps.

I emailed TD for their advice as to which tune is appropriate. Now that you mention it. I don't think they have a MS16pm tune? They have a MS16 smm (stock mod muffler) tune. They go from powertrail to MS17 on their pm tunesMS16 is a stock muffler tune. I personally wouldn't be running it with a hi flow muffler.
Things change all the time....I'll give them a call next week
Thanks DMC

MS16 is not for a high flow muffler and a CAI. That would be MS17.
You might want to order a BOV. Both those tunes exceed the limits of the stock BOV.

Yes, I just got off the phone with Mike at TD. He's going to send me the performance muffler tunes with two bar map. I'm guessing it's going to be ecotrail & powertrail. Then when I upgrade to the bov and three bar map I'll have to call him back To add the 3bar maps to my flasher.MS16 is not for a high flow muffler and a CAI. That would be MS17.

If I am hearing things correctly. At the end of the day I will have 2 files to choose from.
Once they're installed in the flasher they stay there and all I would have to do is plug in the dash flasher to my diagnostic port and Bluetooth it with my phone to select the appropriate file, at any given time.
Note: the 2bar maps would become obsolete once the 3bar is installed.
Is that correct?

Correct. 2 bar tunes don't work with 3 bar, and vice versa. If I am hearing things correctly. At the end of the day I will have 2 files to choose from.

He will remove the 2 bar tunes once you upgrade to 3 bar so they wont be on your flasher anymore . You should have 3 tunes for 2 bar. Eco, powertrail and max17(not maxspool) . Max17 acts like powertrail but with a bit more peak boost. If you ever try to flash 3 bar tunes while having 2 bar installed or vice versa you will get an error on your phone with flasher connected saying there is a sensor error. If I am hearing things correctly. How does Max17 work with 2 bar if boost is up in the 17psi range?!?!He will remove the 2 bar tunes once you upgrade to 3 bar so they wont be on your flasher anymore . Not sure on the specifics but it works. Hurricane has a 290 tune that runs on 2 bar as well. Maptun in sweden does not require upgraded map sensor till over 18.5psi.How does Max17 work with 2 bar if boost is up in the 17psi range?!?!
