Fully clipped track?

Has anyone who's done this seen better hyfax life, and can it be done without taking the skid out on an XTX with a stock track? Thanks

I did this and it did not seem to help. As soon as i hit a groomed trail that is hard packed they melt like butter. I'm going to try adjusting my preload on my center shock to see if that helps. I do think it made the track a little stiffer and role's a little better.

You don't have to remove the skid to cut out the track windows and clip the track. But to make your life a lot easier, remove the flap to give yourself some room to work. Reinstall the flap with stainless screws, locking nuts and fender washers instead of rivets.

I have not seen reduced slider wear with the fully clipped track. However, I've changed too many other variables to know if the clips are the sole contributor to the wear pattern and rate I see now.

If Motodan has an xtx all the windows should be open already. Mine are and it really doesn't take to long to clip the rest of the track. I do think fully clipping the track has helped out ,but my hyfax are still wearing at a fast rate. I have been trying little adjustments at a time, right now i need more snow before i can do anything else. I know i can go with a wheel kit but i'm trying to stay away from that for now. OH and you don't need to take the skid out to clip,as a matter fact you probably don't even have to loosen up the track although it does make it easier. I used a hoist and raised the back of the sled off the ground couple of feet , sat on a stool and clipped from the bottom.

I put on a fully clipped track this year and I can't seem to keep hy-fax on this p.o.s. It has been terrible to say the least, if I ride in any hard pack trail I might as well plan on changing my slide the next day.

Put on the 135mm DOO wheels...

Or put on Hiperfax if you have the fully clipped track. YES... I know they are expensive... but at $50 every 1000 miles (or less) for new hyfax, plus the annoyance of changing them.... the $180 Hiperfax are a bargain as far as I'm concerned. Already got about 600 miles on mine this year and not a single mm of wear yet.... just a thought.

For what it is worth I changed my first set on my XTX after about 300 miles because they wore down fast but not through to the rail. The next set wore down just as fast and I kept riding it and they stopped wearing at a certain point. They are very thin about 12 inches behind the front side wheel. So far I have 3400 miles on the sled with this set and I don't see any more wear. I keep an eye on them after every ride and they are not wearing any more. They wore down to the groove in that spot but they are staying right there. So I suggest you have a spare set on hand but try letting them run down till they are thin and see how long they last for you. Just my opinion.

I thought the same thing about the wear mark. But when I took it in for service, that wear mark isn't a good indication, cause it wore right through and started eating away my rails. Best thing to do is put a set of idler wheels on that bend and you shouldn't ever have a problem again!!
