i just got my teither and it plugged in from yamaha all i had to do was drill the hole for mounting

Was it a Yamaha part?

Part number please?

Did you ever find more info on this?
I'm not afraid of slicing, splicing, soldering, or crimping, but...if price isn't bad. Plug n Play would be slick.
I already have enough wires running all over this sled...(whats a few more, eh?)

Thanks, if anyone else has info on this "plug n play" tether setup.

Not sure why Yamaha doesn't put tethers on their sleds...if its 25-30$ in aftermarket, it'd be maybe a 2-5$ part for the factory to install. Granted, the MSRP would go up 100$ because marketing could now list "Tether" on its specs sheet...but what can ya do. LOL

Will the tether stop the oil from pumping out when tiped over?

Well, it won't 'pump' out like it would when it's still running and on it's side. The oil will still leak though when it's on the side, unless you use Mtnviper's setup, shown in the link above my post.

There has been a fair amount of questions from those wanting to install a tether switch and here is some instructions on how to install one!

1. Buy a Normally Closed tether switch ($23 used on 1997 and older AC sleds)
2. Remove center section hood and clutch side panel.
3. Drill a pilot hole and then a drill the hole to the correct size for the tether to pass through just to the side and rear of the auxilary plug.
4. Run the wires with the stock wire harness down to the black boot on the clutch side of the sled.
5. There will be a black 2-prong plug with a brown & brown/white wire. You must cut the brown or brown/white wire and connect one end of the tether chord to one side and the other tether chord wire to the other side of the brown/white wire. (Preferably using solder and heat shrink tubing). You may have to lengthen the wires on the tether chord to have enough wire to reach down to the rubber glove.
6. Install tether chord into the panel and tighten the top side with a wrench. Then reinstall the clutch side panel and center hood panel and you're ready to go!

I do have tether chords currently in stock and will continue to stock them through the season.

Here is some finished pics!

does those 2 red wires connect to the (used to be one brown wire)? what i am trying to say is the cut brown wire is connected to both tether wires? thanks mang

I war out two of those tethers . The little nipple inside the cap would not push button down then the bottom of switch came apart so had to put wires together to get it back so lookin for something diff that may work all year .Yes i fall off alot :flag:

javascript:; not sure if this link will show on here but I just bought a pro armor kill switch in the closed postion off ebay for $33

Guessing it wouldn't be too hard to upgrade the mtviper kit to use a pro armor switch. Anyone done that?

Mtnviper, are you looking at updating the red rubber cap? Using something that mounts to the handle bars? I'm not really interested in a drilling any holes in my cowling. Plus, to me the red cap looks cheap on a expensive sled. Not bitching, just my thoughts is all. Thanks.

Any chance to get those first page installation pictures work again?

I allready bought a normally closed Sno-X tether from a local Yamaha dealer but I just found out that there is a genuine Yamaha part
8H8-82550-01 ENGINE STOP SWITCH ASSY
Why didn't they want to sell me the OEM part?

Is this original part design to install it in place of Engine stop -button?

Edit: I managed to install the tether. Now I am considering to relocate it to handlebars.
