Gas for nytro

On deep powder days gas light usually starts flickering around 60kms and I usually run out around 75. I always pack to smaller Jerry cans. One on each runing board.
I rarely can get a 100 kms outta a tank.
But I don't ride trails and we get huge snowfalls. All Mtn riding

So are you saying I should be burning regular 87 (that has added ethanol ._.) over 91 Premium (with no ethanol)? I get that 87 start better but is it better on the engine? First year with the nytro and havn't taken it out of the garage yet.. no snow :o| Btw love your videos mypeirce, subscribed way back!

adding to what lsxm3 said 87 octane needs less of a temperature to ignite it, and 92 needs a higher temperature to ignite. Which i believe is why 87 burns faster than the other. as fx10mtx said his sled did not start first turn of the key with higher octane mostly due to the spark plugs not generating enough heat to ignite.
With all the characteristics of the octane if you run a higher octane in an engine the fuel will ignite later in the power stroke of the 4 stroke cycle. This will lead to less power per stroke and thus hammering on the gas more to get the power you want and worse gas mileage. Run what is recommended in your car or anything that uses gas. I have heard peopling saying higher octane cleans out their engine, probably only think that because they gain so much power going back to the right kind of fuel.

I would run the 87 with the ethanol. It's cheaper and the sled will run better with it. But I would also get some Startron. And add it every few tanks and definitely when the sled is going to sit for any length of time. Read up on Startron it's good stuff.

When it comes to fuel milage the condition I have found to affect it is temperature and in turn snow condition. I consistantly got 150-165 kms/stock tank but a couple days of spring riding with 15 C and clammy snow (T-Shirt days).. my milage went through the floor. One of those days was mostly easy trail riding due to the ponds breaking up and stopping us from getting to the hills I still only got 120 kms.
I have found the powder days boondocking I can still get desent milage for how hard I am riding but when the temp rises excessively its crap.
In saying all that I'm sure I dont ride as hard as some of the guys on here so its all relative to riding style as well.
I always run Regular fuel.

Yes as long as your not storing or not riding for long periods of time, ethanol has been in fuel for years now and the fuel system was designed to comply/deal with the (up to 15%) ethanol in it. Keep in mind that these are fuel injected machines as well so no worries about science experiments going on in float bowls due to the open air design of them, the fuel system on the Nytro as with all fuel injected systems is a closed system with no air except for the fuel tank when not full!

Anything over 87 and your wasting your money, time, and effort. This engine was designed to run on 87.
