If I got it right... It´s possible to change from Mtn stock gearing 21/40 to a shorty stock gearing 24/38 without changing the chain.... But is 24/39 also possible without a new chain?

You can use the same 70 link chain with all those gearing combinations.

Thanks for the info. It got 400 non turbo miles so I think the chain is OK.

Didn´t work! Tried 24/39 (39 seems to be std with reverse) and the chain is to short. It´s a 68 link chain. Shall try with a 70 link chain....

Should be a 70 link chain on there..the 68 link woulda been very loose. That is strange cus I did a gearing change for a bud & his had a 70 link but it was kinda tight. Must have made a running change.

Gearing

24 - 39 seems to work for me. Great all round pull. Works great with 1.25 Ripsaw! :yam:

The 70 link chain worked. Running 24/39 now. Did also find a chart of sprockets, gearing and chains at totallyamaha.com.

Thanks for the help! :D
