We am stretching "ditch crickets" '07 GT to 136" and wondering if the stock 20/41 gearting is too tall to pull the 136 in the deep snow.
As I see it, I can either lower the greaing to 18/41 (which was stock on base, FX and MTN Lite which will do nothing for helping with tight track tension with the Tracks USE 8" extensions; or, while apart I can change out the 9 tooth drivers to 8 tooth drivers which will acoomplish lowering the gearing and allowing more room to compensate for the 8" extensions.
Anyone with a GT stretched to 136, is there enough motor to pull the 136 with stock gearing?
All with a stretch feel free to chime in.
Thanks

No problem with the stock gears in the wife's stretched GT, she says there is more than adequate grunt and she has the 136" track with the 1.5 lug.

Once the snow pack is back up too 2-3+ feet next season I will need to "professionally test drive" this 136 Phazer up in the wooded hill sides.

Leave the 9 tooth drivers in, just regear it to the 18 tooth top, this will be your best overall setup. The 8 tooth drivers change the approach angle and you do not want that.

I dropped my GT to an 18 tooth before the 136 conversion and I honnestly think the 20tooth for my kind of riding would be too high.
The track will fit with the stock drivers but it is a fight to get it in there.

I hade anticipated that answer and already ordered the 18t for the install.

Maybe Ditch Cricket will trade you for the turbo Viper if you ask him really nice....Once the snow pack is back up too 2-3+ feet next season I will need to "professionally test drive" this 136 Phazer up in the wooded hill sides.

Axles and drivers are cheap on Ebay, I'd go the MTX driver route if the track is tight. I'm running 19/40 gearing, 8 tooth mtx drivers, and a 144" freeride track and only under IDEAL conditions do I run out of gear. Gearing is out at 77mph GPS (85-86 speedo) and I approach the rev limiter around 81-82mph (90-91 speedo). Also 8 tooth drivers on a 9 tooth machine will put the speedo almost dead on. Staying with the stock 20 tooth gear AND stock 9 tooth drivers would really hurt your potential power, you would be giving up 10-15% more power to the track for speed you would never use.

The track is really tight initially but it is mainly because its hard to get the kinks out if it from the box. It also will stretch some once it is run in.
Blueironranger is right that you can get the same gearing with the smaller drivers but you sacrifice the approach angle as Ulmer said and increase rolling resistance with the smaller diameter drivers.

Post some pictures when you are done. There seems to be a lot of 136" conversions recently and it's always neat to see what the look like when they are done.

Right now awaiting arrival of new bearings and 18t top gear. Also AC wheels to replace the plastic spoked uppers. Hope to get the skid installed next weekend. Scattered parts taking up a lot of garage space right now.
Thanks for the responses all.

Here's where we are at right now. Front subframe is off for a complete suspension busing replacement, added grease zerks everywhere, etc...Post some pictures when you are done. There seems to be a lot of 136" conversions recently and it's always neat to see what the look like when they are done.

Looks good. How did you mount the extra wheel on the skid just ahead of the axle?

I did the same as Canoehead did using a wheel kit and bolt from the MTX. Just replace the bolt that holds the rear arm axle with the new bolt. No need to drill holes. Wheels are excell.Looks good. How did you mount the extra wheel on the skid just ahead of the axle?

Cool, didn't know it was that easy.
I didn't add any extra wheels to mine and the slides seem to be holding up ok. I did buy the white ones that are supposed to be a little better wearing do I'm not sure if that made a difference.
