Does anyone know what gearing these sleds have? Then equate RPM, Gearing and gear reduction to come up with a "neighborhood" top speed on each machine.
I think the mountain lite has 17/41 gearing but I am not certain.

I would be interested in knowing topspeeds as well? Its still a bit of a tossup on if I should go w?ith the mtn lite or FX?
If I get a topspeed of 80 mph out of the longtrack then that would make me happy but I guess only time wll tell.

Didn't Lazy Bastard calculate this last spring?? I thought he came up with a theoretical "top speed" for the Phazer???

Read in amsnow that jeff simon on simon's cpr put a phazer on the asphalt last spring and quickly turned 91 mph, 13,4 sec quarter mile time! I guess that this was done on a early demo sled and for what I have read you cant compare the demo with the one that are for sales now. I have ordered a fx color blue so I will soon find out how this sled perform

Gearing
FX is 41/18
GT is 41/20
Mtn is 41/17
Venture is 45/19
One thing to note is the mtn lite has 8 tooth drivers while the others have 9 tooth.
Just picked up my mtn lite, reading the owners manual is all I have now...
BTW there are two holes in the tunnel.. but its all good.
One is up by the y-pipe.

What effect does gearing have on top speed?
Will a GT with 41/20 have a higher top end then a Mtn lite with 41/17?

I just read some info here:
http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?broch ... on_id=3850
So the gearing Ratios are as follows
FX is 2.28:1
GT is 2.05:1
Mtn is 2.41:1
Venture is 2.37:1
Looks like the GT will have the fastest track speed
I don't know how the different drivers on the MTN will affect the ratio though, but trying to figure that one out.

Basically I believe if I can remember right now, your looking at about 10 to 12 mph faster speed out of the GT vs Lite. But even though that gearing is higher on the GT you still need the power to turn that over, so I'm thinking real time it might have a 6 to 8 mph faster speeds then the lite.
Acceleration would pull harder on the lite, FX, and the GT would have a more gradual pull but better topend.
My guesses are the GT would hit around 87 to 90 mph Gear 41/20
The FX would be about 83 to 85 mph Gear 41/18
The lite would be about 79 to 81 mph Gear 41/17
This is saying that all condition would be right for good top speeds.
Anyone care to comment on my guesses???

Thanks for the info, good read at the link.
While Im no stranger to tuning engines, Im new to snowmobile gearing/clutching. I remember last year when I changed the pipe on my 550 my revs fell 500 RPM and I had to change the weights to bring them back up, it took me a long time to figure why that happened.
Its still hard to get my head around the effects of gear changes in a system that effectively has infinite gear ratios... But I had remembered reading that changing the teeth on the drive socket or gearing, wouldnt do anything for the top-end on that sled (the 550, 70mph) as several members tried it. Here, it must do something or Yamaha wouldnt have done it to begin with, but good read on that article.
Thanks,
-Steve

Does anyone know the the Standard Phazer gearing is? Can the gears be changed easily? - I guess what I'm asking, does the Phazer have a chaincase like most sleds, or is the gearing internal somehow?
Assuming it's a chaincase- is the FX's chain long enough for a 20 (or 19?)
tooth sprocket?
Gear chart only goes to 40T

yamy, look up a couple posts, a 20 and a 19 are in the GT and the Venture.
thats the GT in the picture below, its a standard chaincase configuration(other than the fact that the chaincase is formed into the bulk head.
So I would say yes, you can get it to work, the yami site lists an 80link chain for the three models.

Still wondering what the Standard Base model (not GT,FX,Mnt) Phazer is geared?

Was that a GT or Base Model ? seems like the FX is geared down too much for that speed.Read in amsnow that jeff simon on simon's cpr put a phazer on the asphalt last spring and quickly turned 91 mph, 13,4 sec quarter mile time!
