Changed the gearing on my Nytro RTX to 23/39. It was cheaper to change the chain and top gear rathe than the top and bottom to keep the stock chain. The top end is much better, about 7 m.p.h., with the same snap. As a matter of fact, the acceleration is better than the low gearing. As far as the dream-meter, it is pretty close now. Rode beside a buddies APEX, he was reading 108 and I was reading 97...what a differance! I have seen 108 on my speedo! Could only see 100-101 with the stock gearing.

It shouldn't matter what you change the gearing to, your sled should still read the correct speed. Because the speedometer pick up is off the drive shaft.

I think he's saying that the Nytro speedo is more accurate than the Apex or less slippage now, Hey phazerman do you still have stock clutching and whats your ride weight. Thanks

Yes, stock clutching and my full dress weight is around 265! I know the speedo pulls off the driveshaft!!!

Thats some good results... I didn't get the results I wanted.. I only ever seen 96MPH.. I suspect my belt might be slipping though. I hope to dial in my clutch kit better
How many miles on your sled?

so if i read this right you're running 23/39 and a 70? link chain or stock chain , all with stock clutch settings

22/39 gearing is definately better than stock 23/39. Better acceleration and top end speed for sure. I gained a solid 10 mph going to 22/38 gearing over stock.

Sorry, stated stock gearing is 23/39....correction, stock gearing is 21/39.

Race_blue60, 22/38 w/ 68 link chain. I weigh 165# w/o gear on. Sled rips with this combo of gearing. Heavier riders (over 210 ibs.) should probably stick with 22/39 gearing.

I just installed my 22 gear and stage 2 clutch kit from ulmer, with gear I weigh 210 lbs. Ialso have the excell pipe and header with 10ek's and 192 woodys megabite 1.325 studs. When stock with just the plugs I could pull my buddys 800 rev 1/2 to a sled up to 90+ mph, going up north soon and looking to do another comparison run with the rev.

Good to here some good about gearing up! I posted on a thread the other day and everybody seemed to think I was crazy and my sled would be slower! I thought they were nuts! Here is the thread.

On a 2500' plowed strip a stock nytro ran 103.5mph with stock clutching and gearing. The sled was then geared 23/39 and was able to run 111-112mph pass after pass. After the gearing change he raced the sled against a stock nytro and he would pull a couple lengths out of the hole and then keep pulling . I think the gearing helps the sled hookup and control track spin. These were the results on that day with that sled, it may not work for everyone.
