at 210 for a season its not too bad in my opinion. But need to buy it early. I did register for the try our trails and was out for 2-3 hrs yesterday. Was good, my issue is no one to ride with around here, Would consider a pass next year, but only if I have some buds who also pick up a pass.

Now as far as highest price, have you see Quebec trail pass prices..??

The Quebec trail pass includes liability insurance, so @ $30 /month(360/year) that is a bargain in Que. I used to ride Ontario @ $100/pass and the trails haven't changed since. :drink: :die
Eh come on down to NL - the early bird (no pun intended) pass is $80 and $60 for the second sled - but people still complain and ride w/o passes :o| But our trails are not as good as yours by the sounds of it.

I pay less than 10$/mnth for Liability Ins in Ont, and be careful with the Ins from the Que trail pass, read the fine print I am not sure it is valid outside the province of Que. I know it wasn't about 5 yrs ago.

Probably no one will convince you, but 200/yr is not that bad, Also keep in mind when you paid 100$/yr fuel prices were likely 1/2 what they are today, the cost of maintaining the trails is higher.

Where I see a chance for both Quebec and Ont t gain some revenue and more people buying passes is not by reducing the yearly membership (ok maybe in Quebec, they could offer 2, one with and without Insurance coverage!) but is their weekend passes, Costs are outrageous for a weekend pass, $100 for a weekend?? I also think they should be offering prorated passes, or a monthly pass. Why would I go and drop 260 on a trail pass in Mid Feb? if you don't buy it around Xmas, then its not cost effective, and likely they miss out on a lot of people who would otherwise buy mid season. So if they offered a discount if you bought in Feb, and then another drop in March, I think they may increase the sales of permits and pick up revenue that is otherwiseo lost.

Just my .02 cents

Everybody needs to get their buds with sleds out riding this weekend with the try our trails permit. I am assuming that if these permits fly with great numbers than this will alert the OFSC that the permit price is too high. If there can be a large number of these permits the OFSC will see the revenue they are missing out on. THis number has to be huge. Even if you don't plan on riding or using it, please apply for a permit to get this number as high as possible. I for one will not purchase a $260 permit for the short season we have but if this number can be cut in half it would be much more inviting. THat to all who help out. Visit the OFSC website http://www.ofsc.on.ca/
Ya , the OFSC will cut the permit price in half ,if you just phone them they should get right on it

Agree thoroughly on the depreciating permit. I usually buy when we get snow. Last year it never happened in our area( District 9) This year hasn't been good until lately this month. THe idea was passed around earlier this year of regional permits at a lesser cost to also generate more revenue. Travel is not an option for alot of people with kids involved in sports and other family activities that don't allow a week away. Most in my area r running a 400+dollar permit with no riding last year. THis is most likely the reason permit sales were down 25% in our area. You are correct on the insurance deal in QUE. But for those who ride there exclusively this is a better deal than what we recieve. Much more beautful province as well.

We stayed in timmins one night and right now we are in iroquois falls, tomorrow, heading home, the canyon loop is a full day depending on how fast you ride, riding in the middle of nowhere ,make sure there is gas at the far end,and bring cash, gas is expensive, but well worth it,
Pat: did you stay at the Auberge McDonald Guest Inn and,if so, how was it? Does the trail go right to their door? My wife and I are booked in there this week. Do you have any recommendations for places to eat,gas etc in Ir. Falls?

A little bird told me there is a proposal being considered by the OFSC at the latest meeting that would see the following permit prices for 2014:
Before Nov. 1-$180
Nov.2-Dec. 1 $210
After Dec. 1 $290
And that all the "Regionality" models didn't seem to work out as expected and have been pushed to the back burner.

Ha ha Rooster man! Got ya. Was just to easy of a spot to ask! Ya back to your topic, sometimes we feel the passess are too much but I think its only when we as individuals don't or aren't able to get out on the trails. But once were out and enjoying them, I think the price is fine. If there were a guarantee of excellent trails everywhere I rode(and that's not a lot) I'd pay the xtra to have the conditions.
