I am getting ready to tear into my sled and get the Timbersled drop brackets and the Hartman Tunnel extension installed. I am also going to the single exhaust dump into track.

Here my thoughts. A Glasspack that is straight through it does not really supply any back pressure for the engine. So Why not go straight pipe??
Would be lighter and alot easier to do. Just cut off the muffler. Any thoughts on this and correct me if I am wrong about the glasspack.

I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I start this project because I would like to have this done with in the work week so I can ride the next weekend.

I think you'll rattle your head, and everyone elses, if you go with a straight pipe. The glasspack flows straight though, but does a fair bit to quiet the thing down. It keeps it just below the un-comfortable level, and I think you'll be well over it, straight.

SO If it is true that the glass pack does not hold back pressure what happens to the top end power??
It would seem that it would lose power on the top

im supposed to put my sled on a Dyno at the end of the month, i will know at this time if i lost top end. I have 2 inch straight pipe Hindle.

Honestly i dont think i lost top end. I was pulling 1000 more rpm with the same clutching than with the stock exhaust. 10100 before vs 11100. Sure i dont know where the motor make the most power now ! Seat of the pant with clutching try, it seem to be 10700-10800. And in my case, sound level is still very acceptable for the rider, not much louder on the sled. Its another story behind. :-o

I tried the straight pipe and it has a bad obnoxious sound IMO. The glass pack although a little heavier (+4.25 Lbs) sounds great and causes no ill affects performance wise.

Has anyone pruned opne the stock muffler and de-baffled it? I'm thinking to keep it looking stock but ease the restriction and gain a bit of power. That and I'm big fat mod-checken!

I gutted the stock exhaust on my S/C Vector. Essentially, I pulled the two little glasspack mufflers out of the inside of the muffler and sealed it back up. I left the "walls" inside the cavity for strength and some noise baffling.

That said, I am going to pull it now and go with a tunnel dump. My Vector is too heavy in the mountain for my liking and the stock exhaust is still very heavy after removing the small glasspacks (might have dropped 2 pounds only).

The sound is very nice this way however. It is very quiet below 6000 RPMs, barely louder than stock, but begins to bark when you get into the pump and get the Rs up.

I run straight pipes on my RX and like it for the weight savings. My neighbors can all tell you when I am loading up my sled :tg:
On trails, it's alot louder than my other RX with loud white knuckle exhaust, but in the powder it's not that bad. Typical header with short pipe.

I would agree with that 100%.

I think you guys are right. I put a glass pack on it is 3.5" in diameter it fits real nice in there. I had a bar welded to the top of the glass pack and It is riveted to heat shield in the tunnel. Worked real well I think that I am going to really like the sound.

On another note I have a cracked tunnel right where the timber sled brackets will mount. It is cracked on both sides right behind the cooler tube that comes out of the running board. I am going to rivet plates on the outside and the bracket bolts will also go throught it.

I will post pics if I ever take any.

TheGlass pack is in ad I am glad I went with one. Not sure how much louder the straight pipe would have been. This one is really loud but it is real throaty. I like it. Here a couple pf pics that I have.

I also kept the stock look to it and I filled in around the pipe and actually made a storage compartment out of the old muffler cover. I have a opening through back under the light that I am going attach some fabric so it velcros closed.

Now that it is in and I have ridden a few times It is noticeable that the track is hitting the glass pack as it comes around. Is this going to be a problem with my lugs or will it just burn them off to a clearance point??

It looks a little big. Our's touch sometimes with a 3in diameter glasspack, but no issues with thousands of miles. You see a little black on the pipe and but you can't see any damage to the track. If we run the tracks with only 3/4 inch sag, they don't seem to hit at all. More than an inch sag we ratchet, anyway.

The crack looks nasty.
