I am looking for some ideas for new gloves. I need lighter weight with some insulation but not very much. They HAVE to be very waterproof AND very breathable. I prefer Gortex.

I really like the Klim gloves even though they are a little to warm, but unfortunately they were made to fit a monkey. The thumb and pinky are WAY to long for any human I know.

So any recomendations?

I can't remember the brand name, but I picked up a pair at Novi last year. Leather. I wanted a glove with a large gauntlet, that would simply slide right on, and not have to mess up with a gauntlet closure. I found what was close, but not exactly. But the cool thing is they have what looks like a rubber windshield wiper built into the index fingers. The wipers worked really well to keep the lense clean on my helmet. I wore out the wipers though, normal wear and tear, not on helmet shield. I will be looking for these gloves at Novi again this year. ;)! ;)!

I found that a thin glove allows for better feel and less sweating when you are really giving it. I always keep a pair of muffs in the trunk for really cold temps. When it is -30, not many gloves can keep your hands warm. Put on the muffs (2 minutes), and your hands will be toasty warm. Buy a less expensive glove and spend the money on muffs.

I agree with Snowsweat. I used a pair of mittens last year in 40 below weather and my hands were fine the whole time. The mittens are the same ones the Canadian Army uses. Leather outers with a fleece liner.

Spray, I am guessing by your Gortex comment that your hands sweat a lot and want something breathable. My hands sweat a lot too, but the lining in those mittens absorbs the moisture. Pull out the liners when you stop someplace and let them dry. They are really good.

You could also send a PM to lakercr as he was wearing a pair FXR gloves and his hands never got cold either.

i forgot the brand name of my gloves but there leather claw type...with the lilte wiper
first year my fingers never frozzed and my hands never sweated much with them

I just bought a set of coldwaves. They look like the mechanics gloves that are getting popular. I lhave had great luck with all of coldwaves products, so I hope these work well too! Should have much more grip on the bars, and they shouldn't sweat up so much.

Spray, I reall like the first ones you show. I use Reima and I would not know how to improve on them. The only thing I could ask for if I had a wish is to be thinner like the mechanics gloves. Not that they are bulky mind you in the least.

I had to replace my gloves last year and went with the Yamaha Gore-tex glove. Hands stayed dry and warm all season. No complaints thus far. If I could add one thing to this glove, it would be the lil squeegy (rubber strip) added to the index finger. My friend has a pair of gloves with it on and it makes clearing the lens a lot easier and doesn't scratch the shield.

I bought last years design but here is the 05 Gore-tex glove by Yamaha.

The only downside for you spray25 is that it may not be as light weight as the ones you listed with the exception of the Cabelas Gore-tex glove.

Seriously folks. The muffs only cost $30 and then it doesn't matter what gloves you buy. Only the experienced riders in our group wear them, the young guys don't think they look cool.

I use Mechanix gloves. I have the hand guards that block the wind. Your hands never sweat...which is the really bad when the temperature drops!!!

I rode the whole season last year with them.....keep a pair of thick gloves with you. Just in case you wake up to one of those really col mornings!!

I too use mechanix gloves, I have no wind gaurds on the bars and I wear these to about -18c (unless) we have to ride a long way in to the mountains, then I go to about -15c. They are so excellent to wear and they don't weigh anything so I actually pack 2 spare sets in my back pack, Iwear one pair on the way in and until we have lunch, then a dry pair after lunch till we go home, then a dry pair for the ride home (They tend to get wet digg'n guys out when boon docking). If it's -10c or warmer though I usually wear the same pair all day. You can get them in several colors and there is also several styles. After you ride with these you won't go back to regular snowmobile gloves. All the guys I ride with wear them as well. The model I wear are "Mechanix Wear M-PACT 2" I bought them at a Lordco but most automotive places have them.

The Yamaha gloves along with the cabela gloves are probably to warm for normal mountain riding.

We need very water proof, very breathable, with minimal insulation. You spend a lot of time sweating and a lot of time digging. So the gloves get wet from either snow or sweat.

The mittiens would not give you enough control and grip.

I have 3 pair of gloves that I use. 1, normal riding Mac tool gloves (red) they match my jacket. Yes they get wet but when I'm done digging out I just wring them out quick and they dry out fast. 2, Temps 20 down to 0, Mac tools insulated gloves, same reason as # 1. #3, temps below 0, Cabella's much like the ones pictured by spray.
