Hi I am about to pull the trigger on a 2007 FX Phazer it has 1400 miles on it they want 3000 for it blue book says 3200 but that can not always be true to demand. I have wanted a Phazer since they first came out. I convinced the wife it is for her. and I hope she rides the skis off it but if not that's okay too. So what do I need to look out for on this sled when I go to look at it for the first time? I have had sleds most my life so I kinda know what is the norm but what is unique for this sled this year. I heard some 07's can have the gear reduction blow up when they are still low on miles can you tell if this might be one and never got enough miles to let go yet? sorry for the long winded post but I really don't want to screw this on up seeing as it is her first sled in all:)
Thanks for all replies

I would find out what updates have been done to it. I always try and add in the cost of what I need to do to a sled to the asking price to determine if its a good deal or no. 1400 miles means different things to different folks. Up here three weeks worth of hard riding. For others its eight years of easy riding.

I would check the arm on the skid. See if it has the fan upgrade and anything else that might be expensive to fix.

thank you for the link is there reason to be scared of the 07 model? the story is it was bought from a dealer last fall with 400 female ridden miles (wife didnt get into sledding like husband had hoped ) Bought by Robbie Resch"s dad for him to use for trail ridding when he was not raceing cross country for team yamaha he put on about 1000 miles this past season. No resason that i am aware of that they are selling but my guess would be he prolly wants something bigger for next season. I am going up to see it tonight with check in hand from the bank.

I just bought an 07 in Feb and I love it. I've put over 2,000 miles on it and until just recently, no problems at all.

well I didnt buy it it looked pretty rough and didnt have any of the updates that i could tell. had dirt in the air box broken plastic by exhaust suspension arm was broke on both sides.Steering was so sloppy the bars would move 4+ inches before the skis responded a arm bushings were starting to get play in them. so we were unable to agree on a price at this time so back to the old drawing board i guess. will have to keep my eyes open for a xtx if i can or any phazer that has been well maintained.

Smart..... I passed on a bunch of sleds before I settled on this one. Some were absolutely hammered and some were nice but overpriced by a bunch. I did pass on a '11 that I probably should have bought but its water under the bridge now.

Keep looking you will find one and this time of year is the best time to buy. Try to find an 08 or newer. Even if you think the updates were done chances are they have not all been done. I bought my "updated" 07 and spent 6 months check on updates and replacing parts. There is quite a few but now my sled is perfect but took $ to get it there.

Thanks guys i hope to find one with a longer track would love to find one with the tipped up rails like my xtx time will tell and i will be all over you guys for advise once i get one.

If you are going to spend most of your time on trails buy a shorty and extend it. The mountain or mtx phazers have a 2" not trail friendly track and a narrower front ski stance. I extended mine with 6 degree tip up extensions. The phazer is super easy to swap tracks on. G. B.

yes i plan to be on trail most of the time and the wife needs to be able to like it too. so mtn one would not be a good choice then i guess.

I have the 144 mountain skid in and running a 2' paddle and I find it great on the trails. I ride 80% of the time on the trail and didn't notice any handling changes. The good thing about the longer skid is that it handles the bumps much better. I'm running FX front suspension so tippiness isn't an issue. Some do find the narrower front suspension on the MTX sleds tippy.

any push in the corners? 2" seem excessive for on trail for a woman even more so but truth be told the deepest lug i have rode is a 1.5 on a 144 xtx apex.I like the idea of rail ext. i know with some sleds like the attack the geometry of the skid dont work good with stretching is there any issue with phazer skid when you add rail exts? or would one be better off to get the mountain skid and fit it in?

No problem with pushing in the corners if the suspension is set up right. I found no problem with running the 2" on the trail. You have to remember withe the tip up on the 144 the last part of the skid isn't contacting on hard pack so it acts simular to the 121. The noticeable difference on trail is on the rough stuff is absorbed much better.

Look around on ebay for an MTX skid. Personally I went with the MTX 144 because the price is right and because of the tip up skid.
