I went to the dealer today and saw my sled in pieces. They are opening up my engine on Wednesday and giving me new rings. This is all on Yamaha's dime. I am thrilled a company stood behind their product. I will let eveyone know how the rebuilt went when I hear the engine run.

You know, I am very happy for you I truly am. I cant help to get ill feelings though towards Yamaha Canada when reading things like this. Every time you hear of someone getting the kind of service under warranty they should be it is coming from Yamaha USA. Yamaha Canada sucks in comparison.

I have been waiting for 2 months for them to decide if they will give me new coils. Yep Yammi Canada needs to open there eyes and realize that the Canadians talk to the Americans VIA the internet and if you are going to do something on one side of the border you need to follow suit on the other side. Like for instance, if you sell ring free in the States and people seem to need it then maybe you should make in available in Canada, or do we not have the "BAD GAS" north or the border?

You guys need a new service rep out west or a new dealer or else
I am just damn lucky with my dealer and dealer service rep.

My Warrior got a rear exchanger and me new boots, Courtesy of Yam. Canada cause it ran warm. The Yanks As I recall were having a problem getting squat according to this site. All I paid for was the exchanger protector to keep the studs at bay.

Yam Canada also did a top end rebuild on it last fall. I did not think it needed it but they offered so I was not gonna refuse. Turns out I was right . After it was all done they notice a hose under the engine had a very fine leak as the dealer was putting it together.

It had been using a minor amount of antifreeze and puffing a little blue smoke. Used no oil though. Smoke puff was probably the Sea Foam working.

Glad they came through for you Dana.

I have got nothing but good to say about the way I have been looked after, the few times I have needed it.

How did you get them to do this? Did you have an extended waranty?

Well, I received a call from my Dealer yesterday. My sled is done and in perfect working order. Everything inside the engine looked perfect. There were no visible signs of problems with oil usuage. I asked why did they think I was using oil? He said he did not know, but that the intake valves were out of spec and needed to be adjusted quite a bit. Now I am no mechanic or even know why this would effect oil usuage, but they were out of spec from the factory. That was his opinion. Now, I have to wait another 9 months for testing and confirmation that the problem is corrected once and for all. The only bad thing is now I have to go another 500 long miles before I can get on it. That was the worst part of owning this sled. Now for the real kicker, I asked him what the bill was, and he said zippo. That is priceless! Thanks goes out to my dealer and to Yamaha!

Hey Boston RX1, who is your dealer???

It's allways good to give the really good dealers thumbs up on a good job!!!

My dealer is HK Powersports in Laconia, NH. I did not even buy the sled from them. They have been great.

Boston RX1. What year is your sled and how bad was the oil usage before they did something about it.

Boston RX1..What year is your sled. I am hoping it is just the 03s that have the oil burning issues. I heard they changed the rings in 04. I have 7,000 miles on my 04. In 3000 miles this year I used about 1 1/3 quarts.
I assume your dealer used the updated rings ???

It is an 03. I think they put in 05 rings. I can confirm that when I pick up the sled this week.

Dana, you said the worse thing about getting your sled repaired is you will have to wait 500 miles before you can really lean on it hard again. After riding with you some for the last 3 years, I didn't think you ever got on it hard. LOL! Maybe the reason you were using oil in the first place, is you babied it too much when it was new. After 100 miles of varying the RPM's, lay right on the gas for about a 2 mile stretch and you wouldn't have that problem. By the way, your new house looks awsome.

BBW, thanks for the comments on the house. No comments regarding my sledding. I know where you live. Maybe I should do something different this time. I will talk to you soon.

An update from the dealer. Before any rings are changed, please check your valve measurements. The dealer highly suspects that this is causing the oil usage, not rings. That would be a lot cheaper to check this to make sure everything is in spec before opening up the engine and changing rings. I hope this might save some of my TY brothers some money.
