Since I am going with the 1.5" Freeride, I figured I would install a set of ice scratchers. I copied the plans I found here.
The spring was $2.76 at Home of Economy in Grand Forks, ND. I made spacers out of some UHMW I had picked up at Lee Valley. A little bending to get the right amount of down pressure.
I think they will work out OK.

Yes they do work well...until you go into reverse. You gotta remember to retract them when you do.

They don't have a store in Winnipeg.
Never had any issues in reverse, the way these are designed they will just flop over and not break.

How about when you have to take it out the back of the truck? How about when you have to turn around on a narrow trail? How about when you pull up to the restaurant and park up to the wall, sucks when you have to swing the #*$&@ end around. My last sled didn't have reverse and Im glad this one does.

I just pull the sled off the trailer then start it up. No effort to it. When I park at a restaurant I always turn the sled around or find a spot to park that I can drive through. Not saying I never use reverse I'm just saying I don't use it much. But yes it is a pain to man-handle around when you have to.
Mt sled doesnt have reverse and although I wouldnt mind having it I have gotten by up to this point.
