Got the new LTX-SE home - review & few questions

We'll she finally arrived. Got her home to look through and began installing accessories earlier today. Will post pics in a few days once all my extras are installed.

Initial Review: looks like I got lucky, no cross threaded torx bolts or stripped heads in the removal process. All clamps on coolant lines are secured from factory and mine do not touch - no rub concerns. You guys weren't joking - this sled sounds just as mean as it looks. My only complaint thus far is how lousy the seat cover is. The red color vinyl is nothing like the red color of the plastics; plus, it's sloppy and loose on the back portion.

Questions:
Clutching: is it normal for the primary clutch too slam open and knock real loud when you let off the throttle completely?....Man that is annoying. Also, is it normal for my drive clutch to have about 1/8 inch of free-play? I can slide it in and out very easily.

Rear suspension/track: I don't know if this was from the factory or the dealer, but my track is on extremely tight. To the point where the rear wheels are bubbling the track out. See pics - looks as if the dealer tightened up more than usual...I thought this set up was designed to run loose?

What is the process to adjust rear suspension? Also very tight/stiff. I am a lighter guy and would like to soften it up as much as possible.

Appreciate your help, and happy to post additional pics for clarification if needed.

I'm right there with ya my eat cover was hanging off and I had to put a few staples in it my self or it would have fallen apart! I'll be getting a country at gripper seat for sure! This seat cover won't even last a year it already had rub spots in it and I haven't even ridden it! :o| Other than that such a sweet sled!!

Yes clutch is normal. You have a floating clutch something other makes have to pay extra to do. The slamming I have noticed also. I dont like it either remains to be seen how that works out.

Track will stretch and take a set. You may end up tightening it eventually. Those bulges are one more reason to justify a 4th wheel kit. The extra wheels will lessen that bulging and pressure on the two inside wheels considerably.

My rear suspension came set all the way soft with maximum transfer. DONT PANIC the suspension will get much softer and gain some sag by the 300mi mark. Let it break in. At 145lbs I am in same boat as you. No sag at all. I have seen this before though. Be patient and ride it hard it will come around. To ensure it is set soft just look at the triangle shaped piece short end of rear spring is in. Is spring on the shortest side of triangle? If so you are soft and no way to make it softer till it settles in.

You said your drive clutch, meaning the clutch bolted to the motor, has 1/8 inch in and out movement?

That dont sound right to me. Your secondary floats, every sled i have ever worked on has the primary locked solid onto the motor shaft and requires a puller to remove. Seems to me that if the primary is moving you might have a problem, but im not familiar with the viper, i could be wrong

I think you meant your driven clutch or secondary clutch floats .right?
 
Was just at my dealer looks like cat got the better seats! There's are all grippy and the material looks way more durable! The viper seat almost feels rubbery! Lol :sled1: :drink:
 
Typo. I meant driven clutch. As for the seats, I will ride it out for a year and home yamaha comes out with a better seat wrap for the 2015's. Or just have one made custom.
 
I got 48mi on today in ditches and river. Even a few laps around a snowed over little MX track. Suspension is softening up nicely. Notice most harshness is gone already. Very happy now.

The more I ride the better it gets. This is my first brand new toy. I was a little nervous about dumping that amount of cash on the unknown but everytime I stare at it out the window and go for a ride all that thought about spending money on a new sled went right out the back of my trail of snow dust. I have absolutely no regrets and cant wait to see heads turn. Iam just sayn. :letsnow:
 
i just acquired an 05 vector. going from an 87 super jag, i feel in love. first ride, yesterday, i blew the belt..... sled only has 2140 miles. i got to looking and the driven clutch has the same play as mentioned above. is this normal? i'm going to attach a short video
