RAM mounts are the only way to go! They work terrific. I run the Garmin Nuvi 550 (waterproof), but you'll need to keep it plugged in or the cold kills the battery. For that, the best option is the Powerlet outlets (BMW style). Links below.

I used to run with an oregon but the mini usb power failed so I upgraded to a Montana with 1" ball 3" extension and AMPS. The Montana is amazing with the AMPS mount. The screen is slightly larger than the Oregon (4" vs 3") and can be used in portrait or landscape mode.
