Hello,
I have a Garmin 60CSX that I am going to be using for the first time next week in WI. The unit is rated for temps of + 5 F and above. It will be colder than that I am sure. What type of experience have users of this model had in very cold temps? I have a ram mount on the handlebars. I wish it was rated to work in a little colder enviroment.
Thanks!
Mark

don't worry! I have had mine on my sled for three years now. 06 attak I use it with a ram mount like the one on this site, on the riser with the cigarette plug-in. went to northern quebec a few years ago, no problem with the screen or nothing works great. Enjoy it that's what it's for.

Same here, I have the 76CSX on my Vector, mounted with the Ram mount and wired directly to the Battery with a fused line. I always have the light on (which keeps the unit warmer) and have never had a problem. Ride on.

I have a garmin 60 csx hard wire to the battery with in line fuse. I rode in 5 degree with the wind chill of -15 standing still. The garmin preformed prefect. No problems.

I've never had a problem with any of the Gamins I've used these past couple of years, Etrex, 76cx and Nuvi 550. All performed flawlessly in extreme cold conditions so far. Make sure to hook up the power directly to the sled to save on batteries. I always keep the backlighting on full to maintain internal heat in the unit.
What amperage of fuse are you guys using?

I use a 5Amp fuse on 4mm2 wire. Dont know what's maxSwaff said:What amperage of fuse are you guys using?
It's the dimension on the wire that "desides" the fuse, not what you plugg into it.
The fuse is there to save the wire, not the GPS

This my 3rd winter with 76CSx wired direct to battery with fuse. Last year i mounted it on my Nytro xtx with a ram mount. We were out last year for 3 days in -35 to -42 Celcius plus wind chill and it never had a problem. It worked better in the cold than I did.

I use Lithium batteries in my 60CX. Work great in the cold. They are good down to -40C. I get at least 3 all day trips out of a set.

Wow. Thats incredible KevinS. With my 60CSX riding in about -20c to -30c with batteries (alks) it would die after about 20-30 mins. Ended up hardwiring into the battery with inline fuse and never had a problem. I did manage to ride one time at the coldest temp at -34c and it worked great without any problems.
