Some time ago, I e-mailed Dynojet about custom making Power Commanders for me. They are absolautely the best way to tune fuel injected motorcyles and I see no reason why they wouldn't be as equally good on snowmobiles. I am psyched!

I have yet to hear back from you. I am very prepared to commence having these made. I am prepared to pre pay for this to be done.
I have some questions however:
1. How many units would I need to order?
2. What would be the "buy-in" cost to get you to commence?
3. Can I get "exclusive" distribution of these?

I've been working on this with Dynojet since January! I will hopefully have some results from the asphalt soon!

What if any where your final results of your dyno testing on the Apex?? Did you see gains with the fuel controller?
Or did you scrap the testing until you got a good controller?

dirkdiggler...I decided that the current fuel injection controllers do not allow me enough parameters of tuning. There are rich areas of the curve and lean areas as well. I can't seem to get the lean areas lean enough. With our newly purchased air/fuel ratio meter, we will be able to exactly pinpoint our direct and right to the number RPM range for tuning. What I mean to say is lets say that my air/fuel is rich at 6225 RPM's, I simply lean it at 6225 RPM's. There are also throttle positions for fine tuning "cruising areas" for those that get on a long smooth trail and set their thumb at a cruise control setting.

What is the plans for these controllers?
I guess what im asking is... Are you going to dyno some sleds and come up with a base line and preprogram the programmers and sell them to the consummer?
I would have no idea how to tune one of those..

What they have is CD Rom that comes with the PC3's. You simply load the CD Rom to your computer and try different maps. I am sure just like it was with the motorcycle, that it will be some time until we get a good amount of maps available for the FI Yamaha's. I have donated a lot of maps to Dynojet for the FI motorycles. I will do the same thing with the sleds. Without a dynamometer though Brian, it is reduced to a guessing game. An air/fuel ratio meter helps a bunch too! What is nice about my inertia engine dyno is that we could basically drive the sled around without going anywhere. The advantages of this type of testing would be to have the opportunity to map throttle response all the while having continuous air/fuel data. This will allow me to make each engine absolutely as perfect as it could possibly be regarding mapping.

A dyno is very helpful, but not necessary. With a wide band oxygen sensor for air/fuel ratio and the ablilty to record RPM along with throttle position, the remapping can easily be done in actual field testing. The advantage of the dynojet power commander is that the maps are adjusted for RPM and throttle position. The current boxes available do not know actual throttle position. There is even one advantage of running the tests in the field. This method allows you to run the snowmobile at actual outdoor temperature, altitude and even takes in account your riding style.
The motorcycles are much easier to tune on a dyno because the normal operating temperature ranges (much closer to room temperature) don't very as much as a snowmobile. The current snowmobile fuel injection systems adjust for temperature and altitude and are not always as spot on across the entire operating range.
The software with some wide band oxygen sensors (with recording ability) will build a Matrix of air/fuel ratios over desired RPM and throttle position ranges. This matrix can be used to adjust the dynojet power commander settings. Here is a pic of a Matrix that is provided by software.

I was wondering if I could pick your brain. Does the Commander attach and stay on the sled or do you reprogram the factory settings with it? How do you change the mapping with the Commander? Is it done by connecting it to a cable attached to a computer or are there controls on the Commander to make the adjustments. Does each sled have to be dialed in to each Controller or will a certain map be good on every sled? Any info you could supply would be greatly appreciated.

If its anything like the PCIII USB they use on bikes (which I'm sure it will be) than its very easy..plug the usb cable into the Power commander and then into your laptop and launch the software.
The power commander has a wiring harness attached to it that plugs into each of your injectors, your battery for power (obviously) and then I believe you tap into the pickup line for the Throttle Postion Sensor for signal.

Like Supertuner said, the Power Commander comes with a disk that you will be able to "pick & choose" what map you want for the mods you have done. Also I'm sure Power Commander will have a section on their website where maps will be stored and you will be able to download them to your computer and then to the Power Commander via a USB cable.

You can change the mapping in the controller by either connecting it to your computer via a USB cable or using the buttons which are on the Power Commander unit itself. Using your computer to do any adjustments is alot more accurate than using the buttons on the unit itself. The system will plug in directly above the clutch cover (grey connector).
