GT rear shock rubbing

Thats what I'm talking about! I'm keeping an eye on mine but WTF? The moment it starts to get worse I'm planting a roller bearing on that shock bolt.

WOW GUYS ! Thats bad. Gona have to find a bearing that fits and get them on. It's not worth dragging your sled from 30 miles from noware to home over prob, 2 $5.00 bearings and 10 minutes of work, or waisting $40.00 in gas back and forth to the dealer and tearing your hair out. Yes yamaha has to do something about this in the future but don't tear your sled up waiting for them to fix it.

This one has me scratching my head. You'd think if one sled had these issues, they all would. If not, why not. I put 2500 miles on my RX1 last year with the mono, and had zero shock rub. I put 1000 miles on my ApexGT this year, and yanked the shock to put the heavy spring on. Zero shock rub. Two different skids, two different shocks, zero shock rub. Other issues? (Ohlins shock) sure. Shock rub? No. I've yet to hear a good explanation for this rubbing issue.

The GT has the electronic shock which has a different mount then the manual adjust shock. If you look in the acessory catolog and compare the electric to the manual you will see the much smaller area at which the shock mounts. The only solutions I can see as of now are:

1. Create some type of deflector be it bearings mounted to shock, small wheels ect.

2. Spend the $600.00 and get the electric adjustable shock.

Ah yes, look on the bright side there isn't any snow to ride anyway; at least for me. Traveled 500 miles last week for 5 days of sledding and ony got 3 days worth of snow.

:o| :o| :o|

Yamaha says.....

Well, actually, I got a return phone call from the Yamaha customer service rep that I spoke with a week ago-that's right can you believe it?? Too bad I was out putting some miles on my sled and he left a message!!

What he tells me is that he spoke with a Yamaha snowmobile tech and some rubbing is considered acceptable, but if it gets to the point where it actually wears into the track such as I have seen in the pics posted in this thread, then it's a problem.

I will try and contact this particular cs rep to see if we could somehow get him the pics, or have him view it here on the site.

It is BS that they don't take this issue seriously!

XCSP are you studded???

maybe we can figure out what is causing it. here's my info.
- track studded 144 down middle
- I have ran mostly speed runs (with 140lb son driving)
- less than 200 miles before noticed track rub
- what trail riding i have done has been average bumps
- I weighed approx 300lbs at the time of track rubbing

After I re installed the rear shock I put a small dab of JB weld where I have been getting the wear on the shock (my thinking is if it wears any more, which i don't think it is, I will be able to tell), I will be heading north to Hurley, WI on Sunday for a 4 day ride, I will report any info when I get back. Hopefully it has stopped rubbing..

:die

Not Studded! and it rubs

My Apex ER is not studded and it rubs. I have 500 miles on now, but noticed it after the first 140 miles.

UPATE: just got off the phone with Yamaha Customer Service. I was told that if your track rubs some, don't be concerned-just keep an eye on it, if it gets worse, such as rubbing through to the threads or chunks of rubber come off contact your dealer and have them look at it and they can call Yamaha. Hopefully your dealer is willing to help.

The c.s. rep says there is no problem with the suspension and there isn't anything to have changed, just like the hand warmers.

Well guys after my latest ride I had no more problems with any rubbing on the shock, the mark I put on the top of the eyelet was still there, So I guess i am good to go, oh I did blow another inside wheel though. ( I only replaced the 4 outside ones before I rode this year and by the time i wanted 2 more wheels they have been back ordered) So I am using the ones I took off from the sides. Also my dealer acts like he shouldn't replace them, Kinda funny that the outside ones that I paid for early in the season are holding up compaired to the stock ones. I guess I'll just have to call Yamaha, like I have read other guys doing
