GT rear shock rubbing

Is this what you guys are seeing? I just switched the spring to the fat boy one on my RTX and noticed this. I don't see any wear on my studs and with the pattern I have there is only 10 studs that do go over this area. I'm not to worried, just a little concerned (950 miles)

My GT is rubbing in the same spot, I cant believe Yamaha didnt catch this with R and D. Getting to be like Cat. It is getting to the point now that I am going to be afraid to get a new sled in future due to all these problems we get with any sled. This shock rubbing problem could be a dangerous problem in future with shock compromises! I am fed up with excessive slide wear, idler wheel problems and now shock wear and poor calibration of shocks and springs. For the price of a GT it should be near perfect!!!!! Sorry for ranting, I'm frustrated............

yes throttlejockey. that's what happening to many many people and they don't even know it. eventually it will ruin track or shock, maybe many miles down the road, but it will happen.
Isn't "lasting 4 stroke" a selling point for yamaha??? well seems like this is a big problem.
you need to show your dealer. give him pics, milage on your sled, and you serial number. have him let Yamaha know there is ANOTHER owner that just found out his track is rubbing his shock. you can call at let them too, the number is 1-800-962-7926.
here is what mine looked like.

Thats what I'm talking about! I'm keeping an eye on mine but WTF? The moment it starts to get worse I'm planting a roller bearing on that shock bolt.

Well guys I just got off the phone with a Yamaha tech Guy ( called the 800 number) he said that it is an issue with the track ( hum?) and that the little bit of wear that is happening to these shocks is fairly common. basically it should wear a little bit and then stop. But if it really starts to rip up the track, you are to take it to your dealer and and they will go from there. So I guess keep an eye on it, and if your track shreds on you in the middle of nowhere, pull it back to your dealer, and they will figure something out. I am just gonna keep riding it and hope for the best.... wish me luck (lol)

What about the damage to the shock? The shock is worth more than the track.

Your track will do what the pic shows below. all the track holes started after I had my new shock in.
you know who will have this happening to their track don't you??? the guys like me who have studs in them, and guess what?? no warranty on studded tracks. I can see their answer now. :o|

Anyone with track damage please call yamaha. Talked to my dealer today and they say yamaha has not heard of this sort of thing going on. Has anyone who is NOT running experienced any damage? Please send me a PM. Dealer is not sure where this is going to go, but it sounds like as soon they see studs they are going to turn their heads. Why they have them in the accessory catalog I don't know. I'll pass more info later in the week.

Pics to Yamaha?

Too bad Yamaha doesn't provide an e-mail address to send the pics to so they can see the damage!!

Hopefully someone from Yamaha sees what is happening here and they get this straightened out!

Did anyone have this problem with the mono skid in the Rx1's last year?

That's what I want to know..... We should NOT be having these problems..

mine too

Mine is rubbing too, no studs. Now I'm afraid to stud it for fear of Yamaha not covering it under warranty. Guess I'm stuck on the SRX untill an official word comes from Yamaha. My 05' RX-1 does not rub at all.
