I have done a few things to my sled including the ecp kit, extros, and transfer kit. My ol man just bought a MC 800 144 thats bone stock. When we race from a dead stop he will get me by a 1/2 sled all the way. From a roll on, sometimes me...sometimes him but barely ahead of each other. Basically we are even. He is 220 lbs, I am 175, and i am on the heavy sled... go figure.
Anyways, I have not done any clutch work and am looking for some options to beat mee ol man. He is doing some clutch work and gearing right now. So what do you guys think...heavyhitters??, helixes?, What set-ups are you guys running?? I dont know anything about clutching so tell me exactly what to do.
Thanks guys
Jason

Oh man! You need some help. I have tried the Dalton weights (I have 3 sets) I have tried the Yamaha 8DN-00 weight and of course the stock weights. I was pulling 86 mph with both the 8DN-00 and the Dalton 57.5 gram weights at the air strip.
I went to the same airstrip (different day though) my first time out trying the Heavy Hitters. This time I saw 102 the first trip down the airstrip. I added the 1/4 to the 3/4" allen in the heel and saw 104 and 106 on susequent runs. This is at 3,500 to 4,000 feet. I,m not sure what altitude you are riding but I'm guessing 4-6,000 mostly?
I want to ride Tollgate too by the way!
Here's what I am using. Since you have the ECP filters and the transfer kit and the extroverts we are identical there. Try this:
Primary spring; Use the stock O/S/O
Weights: get a set of heavy hitters and load them as follows.
In the heel install the 3/4" allen screw
In the mid install a 7/16 steel bolt maybe with 1 thin brass colored washer In the tip install a 7/16 steel bolt- you may have to use a 3/8 steel with a washer.
In the secondary: run the Yamaha silver spring at 80 degrees (6+2)
I am using a 54/42 Dalton helix but the stock one should work too?
If not I have an extra 54/42 helix too and a whole bunch of weights and springs you might want to try?
I haven't raced any Artic Cat 800s but Black Sabbath and I KILLED the 800 RMK that was with us the last time we rode.
Take your belt off and look at the sides of it. You will see this glazing on the sides of the belt. I use a small wire whell in my cordless drill to remove the glazign before each ride. It prevents belt slippage and just plain makes your clutches work better. Also, make sure your belt height is riding about 1/8" above the highest point in the secondary. This theoretically starts you out in a lower gear so you hole shot will be better.
That's about it for now. How are you jetted for the ECP filters? PB

We race 5 times, i beat him 5 times, always by 1 or 2 length(approx 1000'), i'm better on top end.

Gear up! this engine will pull taller gearing. The mountain is geared for high altitude. All you need to do is add one or two teeth to your top sprocket(depending on the altitude you operate at)also add the rivets for your altitude. All the other parts remain the same! These changes are cheap to do and make a huge difference. The rx-1m is set up from the factory for operation above 8000feet! It is jetted for sea level so you may want to adjust the main jet depending on the altitude.Do the gear and rivets you will smoke him for sure! All the info is in the sevice manual.

PB-
What do you want for that extra helix??
GUKROKIT-
I dont have a service manual. What rivets do i need to add for my altitude(5-6000)?? Anything else i should do for this altitude until i can get some HH's?
Thanks for the help!!

JayR: I would change top gear to 22Teeth(you have 21 now)leave bottom sprocket stock(40teeth)your chain is fine(70links)Primary clutch :install 13.3steel with hole rivets in outer holes 13.3 aluminum with hole rivets in holes closest to the pin. This stuff shouldn't cost you more than $50.Stock helix is 45 degrees (not cheap to replace but easy to do even on the side of the trail!) buy or borrow a steeper helix or two just to drag the old man. I ended up leaving in a 47 straight helix because it upshifted a little faster and did not lose any notable backshift.I would experiment with some pretty steep ones just for the drag race then install something a little more "trailable" after you do the deed.good luck!

Jay, I agree with GUKROKIT on helixes at least. Dale at Dalton Industries has a RX-1 that Freddie (Supertuner) did the porting job on. He has tried a bunch of helixes and has settled on a 56/43. Funny, that's what I wanted to try this season too (actually a 56/42).
PM me on the Helix. It's a annodized Dalton. I had about a dozen of them last season to test and I kept the steepest ones. Black Sabbath has the same one.
I have some weights you might want to try as well. PB
