Rough trail riding and the condition of these courses are very different What breaks them is the constant pounding of big sharp hits for mile and miles with no breaks that cause the additional stress to the metal. Driving hard and then stopping for a while allows the metal to cool and not stress as much. Thats why we are breaking them faster in acing. At least thats what the Chassis Engineer from Yamahs Suspects when we sent them the failed parts and the reports

i was gonna say hard to do that on a whooped out race course

Ive changed my opinion of why this peice broke.I don't think it had anything to do with the hard hit. After eyeballing this suspension i realized it is heavily protected against a bottom out. This peice would lift a house in tension or compression. It would probobly shear the mounting bolts off before it deformed.
Im thinking its lateral(hard cornering through rotten bumps)or torsional(rear of skid flexing around through the scissors ).If its lateral, stringers(think biplane wing)would increase the strength by a wide margin. If its torsional, loose bushings would help.Since my bushings already suck,im going with lateral as the likely cause.
Lets get that yamaha engineer on here!
I will add stringers as close to the shock as i can.Thick welding rod probobly.I will probobly never realize the results so if you snocross guys try it,you will have your results in a couple weekends!Im not a crackhead.Think it out! There is insane bottom out protection.
If its torsional,i don't have a good answer.
Or possibly my concusion has me in a daze!;-)

I am sure you are right.Think about it its rare you land perfectly flat.Even if not felt thats really tough on suspension.

Wow nice work!Everything clears?Iam no SnoXer but if the shaft at front of skid bends enough it will pull the bolts holding it right through the rails.I made some blocks and longer bolts to prevent that.

Epic fail! The 07 swing arm has a tab width that is tighter than the 08.I assembled the thing with the new 08 i have.I assume the beefed 07 is worthless to everyone since they have jumped to 08 and later design to accomodate the aluminum boomerang.Ill chop the tabs off and widen them later.I was going to gundrill the shaft in cannondales pic above.A tube is supposed to be stronger than a shaft(theoretically making it harder to bend). The newer one is solid(mine was heavily bent). The older one is already drilled. My guess is the drilled one is weaker since they stopped using it by 08(installed it anyway)or they got cheap. If i have the above failure,i will kick myself in the #*$&@ for not welding a plate on there while it was apart but im riding while the riding is still good!
