HI guys,
I put reverse on my 03 RX1 yesterday and said it was done, well I thought all the hard work was under the case cover...its never easy..
Anyway I put it all back together and the parking brake would not bolt up! It was like my rotor was 1/2 - 3/4" too big in diameter! There was no way to use the exisiting holes. Oddly enough there were to more raised cast peices that were in the right spot and were pilot drilled but no threads, so I procedded to drill and tap and let me tell ya maganesium is a wierd metal. it was dry and brittle. Anyway I got it installed but I don't think it will hold all year long.
2 questions:
Is the 05 rx brake rotor smaller? That is what I got this reverse kit from
2) Is there a better fitting I could use like a heli coil or insert that I could screw the M6 1.0 parking brake into?
I'm stumped on this one, thanks guys!

yes i believe the rotor, caliper, and e-brake were all smaller and lighter for 05.
Re: Had to tap my Magnesium chain case..WTF??
Through bolt it?

I don't think through bolting will work either, its about a 1"+ raised casting and I think the chain is almost directly in the way at that spot.

Why not remove the original parkingbrake and use this instead.

I'd locktite it or throw it all together. The RX1 parking brake doesn't work for sh$t anyway. When I trailer my sled, I just pull the brake lever and wedge a 1/4" bolt in there. The bolt threads hold it in place and I've never had it budge. My e-brake cost 6 cents at Aubachon Hardware!!

Did the same on my 03 and it works just fine, I like the idea of a bigger brake on these things, Rotor should stay a little cooler and have less brake fade.

Burma69 - You drilled and tapped the chain case cover like me?

Found a helicoil repair kit. For future searching it looks like this kit will work for tapping into the mag and inserting the SS insert:

try using a stud instead of a bolt, it is stronger. instead of loctite use J.B weld.

go with the helicoil
When installed properly helicoil claims their product is stronger then the original threaded material.
I agree with their claim.
I have been using them daily where i work for the past 7-8 years. Under normal use i have never had 1 fail. people do still cross thread into them but which can be a problem but i have never seen one pull out of the material it is installed in.
