Hand gaurds

Looking for a set of hand gaurds for my RTX. I bought a pair of sporttechs that i got to fit, but my concern was they are mounted on the curve of the handlebar. They also get close to the windshield at full turn.

I looked at the Yamaha ones and the same problems exist. My dealer called yamaha to tell them that they won't work. Anyone have any brands or solutions that may work with the apex? And that will be easy enough to install even for someone like me?

My biggest fear is ramming the windshield.

:yam: I put Power Madd handguards on my RTX. They are easy to install and I think they look nice. I posted pics and a brief description for install under a heading a page or two back "Painted Grills". I also purchased the mirrors that attach to the guards and they are sweet!! I just painted them last nite. I hope this helps.

I installed the Yamaha guards. They mount real nice on the flat part of the handlebars once you remove the three plastic tabs (two on throttle side, one on brake side) that the wires are zip tied to. I had planned on zip tying the wires back to the guard mounts to protect them, but once I had them mounted, it's clear the wires aren't moving anywhere.

When I ordered them, I thought it would be no problem, the Nytro has them. Once I looked at the Nytro I saw that the handlebars used on that sled are straighter than the Apex - this must be why the RTX did not come with them stock.

I have pictures of the guards installed here:

do they hit the windshield when you crank the bars?

did you have to bend the supports at all?

What he said. I did the same thing on my Attak. I even bent the brackets down a little bit. they look good. (I have Yamaha's guards) I also bought the low windshield like the one on the RTX and GT. They hit the windshield but it's at the very end of the turn and I have mine tilted down a little more than Spyderman does.

At the link above I have a picture of the bars fully turned. Just clears over the top of the RTX windshield by about 1/4 inch. I didn't bend the brackets - but like blue said - I might have to turn mine down more to get better protection. We'll see once the snow flies. Less than 20 days and the trails open, all we'll need is snow

Here's some pics of the handguards next to the windshield. AS you can see when it hits the shield there isn't much left to go.

I also wen't with the powermad's and the optional mirror's, I am impressed with how well you can see in the mirror's and there is almost no vibration with sled running. The cover will work but is tight. The black and crome look's great on the GT. kviper
