Has anyone actually done the deed yet ? Removing Ex..

I will be removing the excahnger protectors. Just curious if anyone has put a 2" plus on an XTX with them removed. I have heard people getting a notched track that fits but do not know from who or where. Camoplast seems to have discontinued the one that may have worked out for the XTX.

The ice build up may be another great reason to get the protectors off there. I had a lot of build up at the end of the year when it was getting warmer and it was eating up the track and just plain old annoying.

Turk, how did you remove the tunnel protectors?

I had a huge amount of ice in the rear of my tunnel after riding in some great powder this weekend, and want to prevent it as much as I can.

I took my tunnel protectors out last year when going to the 1.75 backcountry track. Just went in with a small wheel grinder with a cutting disc on it once you have the track and skid out of it. Some of the rivets you can get to and drill them out, shich ever is easiest. It's not that bad of a job. The heat exchanger protectors are the ones to be really careful with. When I changed the track on the 2011 Apex XTX this year. They have went to a bolt in protector. Simple as can be, wish they would have done that a couple of years ago for my Nytro.

I just did mine, not that big of a job at all, 2" x .045" cutting wheel and 90 degree die grinder. Stay 3/16" high on the welds, a tap with the hammer and tug with the vise grip.
