Here I am looking through the Mountain Performance catalog and I see their version of the Bender stage 2 turbo. I see it's more expensive than the standard stage 2 also because its:
1. 16 lbs. lighter than the stage 2 system.
2. 100% titanium exhaust system.
3. Titanium mounting plate for the turbo assembly
4. An aluminum charge tube
5. Self contained oil system integrated into the sleds dry sump oil system.
6. lighter front intercooler
7. lighter fuel supply system
Bottom line is it retails for about $800 more than the stage 2 system. Do you think the above items make it a worthwhile upgrade for someone considering a turbo? Powder Blue

16lbs for $800 is $50/lb not to bad for weight loss, but when you figure that is above the cost of the stage 2 which is $600 more than the stage 1 then NO I don't hink it is worth it. That's $1400 more total.

I'll tell you what's not worth it: sitting out the season *wondering* if the kit is ever going to show up. I ordered one (with deposit!) months ago, and still no one can tell me whether or not it's going to show up in the forseeable future.
Otherwise, I'd say Yeah-- If you've got the dough to blow, save the weight! (Assuming you're a mountain rider...)

You're tight HP overcomes weight.
For you flatties the titanium kit would be a complete waste of money. In the mountains every pund counts against you. Yes, the increase in HP helps a great deal, but not in all situations. One situation where I don't think it is going to help you much is when you are stopped going down (or accross) a steep hill and you realize you need to lay the sled over and turn her back up hill. The reason that I'm not convinced the extra HP is going to help is you have NO momentum at all and you are fighting the weight and balance of the sled to get it over on it's side.
I could be wrong though. When it comes time to do the manuever above you put everything you have into tipping the sled over and you MASH the throttle. Mashing the throttle helps get it over on it's side.

I understand spray, but I'm a flatlander so the weight is not so much a concern. 8)

I agree 100%
MPI advertises 16lbs savings and the use of engine oil on their turbo. I have spoken with Bender many times and they are saying 11-12lbs savings and the oil kit will be awhile yet. MPI tends to stretch things a little. If moneys no option I think it would be worth it, but I think it would be better spent on a rear suspension. Only my opinion.
Nut sack I know the feeling. We ordered turbos in April 02' and they didn't show up until Feb. 03'. Trust me though, it's worth the wait!
