Has anyone had a crack in their oil tank?

Hello all, I am sure happy to have found a site all about 4 stroke yammies.
I have a '06 Apex ER. I upgraded from a 2000 Polaris 500 last December. I've loved the ride and the power.

One question, has anyone else had a crack in their oil tank? As I was getting my sled ready for winter I noticed a puddle of oil under the machine. I searched and cleaned all around the tank and hoses and finally found a very small crank on the bottom of the tank. I used some cold weld and think I have the problem fixed now.

As far as I can remember, I haven't seen any comments or complaints about cracked oil tank(s).
If you want to, you could post a classified ad for a replacement. I'm sure some of the turbo/supercharger guys woud have a stocker to sell ya. Just read the rules for posting if you decide to look for one.

Actually a few guys have had issues with the oil tank leaking. Here is a thread on this subject.

Thanks guys. As I figured my patches seem to be the best cure. Good to know mine wasn't only tank cracked in the same spot.

My brothers 06 nytro oil tank cracked,found it while putting the sled away last april.Installed a new oil tank a week ago($300CDN).Going to keep the old tank and put MSR quick-set aluminum on it(use it as a spare).Be sure to put some RTV sealant on the lower mount for the tank.This will dampen the forces that cause the tank to crack in the first place.

Mine cracked.. a guy on TY sold me a used one last year..


THey dont have enough mounting brackets on it to hold the weight of the oil and tank properly..

apex oil tanks seem to develop cracks around bottom bolt hole they are stress that hapen around 9 10,000 miles know of 3 your post makes 4

mine failed way before that.. i think i had 5000 miles on my sled..

I do alot of jumping thou..
