Going to get a new battery on Monday and am waffling between the YTZ7S or the 10S with more juice but unforturnately more size and weight. How reliable is the YTZ7S?

Mine hasn't but I went with a YTZ10 for that little extra comforting cushion of space. I would recommend you do the same unless you leave your battery on a tender when you aren't riding and you don't ride in temperatures below zero.

Good luck

Stock 03 with battery bracket weighs 17.25 lbs on my sled

Ytz10s is 7.0 lbs 190 cca 8.6 amp hrs
Ytz7s is 4.6 lbs 130 cca 6.0 amp hrs

If you look down in the lower nose between the A arm mounts. On the very bottom of the aluminum bulkhead you'll see a nice rectangular shape. Guess what, the YTZ10 fits in that hole almost perfectly. You don't need a mount. You just need a way to hold the battery down. If you e mail me kempfffers@omnicast.net I'll send you a picture of how I mounted mine. I never take it out. I just hook up the charger cables as needed.

I actually thought the YTZ14 would work but it was a little (tall) if I remember correctly.

Frosty, Why don't u post a the pic for all of us to see?? By the way, why would you mount the battery there and not in it's normal spot??

I'll try to take a couple pictures tonight.

Why would I mount it down lower in the frame?

It eliminates the entire heavy steel mounting bracket, it eliminates the need for a supporting bracket all together (except for some thing to hold it in place, it helps lower the center of gravity for the entire sled, it is a natural fit in this spot (fit's like a glove).

The best way to get the these batteries is to go to Interstate batteries (if they are close to you). They sell the same battery for a substantial discount over the Yuassa brand. If you ask if they give a military discount the price drops a huge amount. Ask J, he just asked if they had a miltary discount (he's not even in the military) and they gave him one.

What do the YTZ10 fit? If I remember correctly it was Honda 900RR and several other similar bikes.

the ytz14, is hte one i use, and not a bad choice, but not the best. she is too tall to fit between the A-arm, i have to use the stock rack with just weld a small support to hold her in place.

I was not sure about cold start capabilities of the 10s.

Yup, the YTZ14 is a great choice but it wouldn't fit where I wanted it so I went smaller. Even the YTZ10 requires a very little bit of trimming of the aluminum risers below the toolbox/drink holder but I was pretty comfortable with the cold starting capabilities.

All I said was, "Do you have a military discount"? and they said yes. I NEVER said I was in the military. :D I used to be, but not any longer.

Anyway, I do use the YTZ10 and it works great. I mounted in the same location as Frostbite. I had a lighter battery before the YTZ10, but it wouldn't start my sled when the temps went below 0. Not good. Luckily I had 2 other RXers with me so I had someone to jump start my sled.

Just bought one on ebay...

I hope it works as well as advertised and that I don't get scammed. It was only $50 shipped. We will wait and see.

I just got my sled back (03 RX-1 with 800 miles) and cannot wait to get some work done on it.

Finished: 06 Apex RTX skid installed, Pioneer Performance 45" wide front end kit (with 13mm swaybar) installed, simmons skis (4" and 6" carbides), Ripsaw track

In process: EPC filter install, lighter battery installation down in the belly, 04 CDI box update, 4" seat padding to be added, possible clutch kit

As a test I pull started my rx yesterday first pull it started from cold. Now I'm not too worried about the YTZ7S. You could almost put that battery in your pocket.
