I am re-wraping the pipe on my MCX Phazer from the flex joints to the turbo. I have heard that wetting the cloth will enable you to get it more tightly wrapped.
Are there any other tricks?
The old stuff that was on there seemed to dry up & became brittle after 500-700km of use. Any reason for that? Crappy material or is that just the way it is?

I had to replace mine after the first season and think it may have to be done again. It might have something to do with the debris from the track that hits it. The directions for my wrap do not mention wetting but did mention a coating I have not used which oddly enough is supposed to increase the life of the wrap. Thinking about ceramic coating anyway and closing the tunnel off completely.

The wrap wont survive under the tunnel for too long. It doesn't seem to like the wet environment in there. I wouldn't waste your time. I tried wetting when installing, dry install too. Nothing would make it last under the tunnel. Seems to work great on a front mount header where is stays dry.

I just did 2 Nytros. We used the silicone impregnated stuff, soaked it in water to get it good and tight, then when almost dry we sprayed the heck out of it with high heat paint. After a little smoke on start it seems to have dried nice and hard. Will see how it stands up.
Yea did mine under tunnel on my Rx1 did not last. But man did it help with response time!!!

Wrapping the header on the Phazer makes a huge difference in throttle response.

Going to box up my exhaust and turbine housing and send them out to get coated. I think I will also send my heat shields that go around the expansion joints as the insulation has started falling out. I found a place called Sun-View Coatings in Summerland B.C. Does anyone know of a good place in Edmonton to get this done.

I am a Huge Fan of Ceramic Metalic coatings Pictured above, I have been using them almost 20 years now.
I do this on every thing I can, it really helps keep the heat in the pipes were it can do the most work.
Plus with Rear mount turbos they tend to rust the inside of the turbo housing so I coat that as well to prevent rust.
Coatings do wonders for performance and longevity.
Ted.

in edmonton i would go to impact coatings, they have done lots of work for friends and myself and i have never had any problems with the quality of the work.
