If you are lucky enough to be riding one of these turbo death machines, and that is your top concern, life is good for you my friend.

That’s the way they are. When stamped they can get folded and look cracked. It’s not an actual problem.
I’d be more concerned about the awful looking corrosion from being trailered on an open trailer in that picture myself.

You're both right...least of my issues. My OCD has kicked in. I'm taking it apart and doing all the "fixes" as well as cleaning up all the oxidation. I think she's happy to be in my garage!
Shock rebuilds are next...I can slam it to the ground and have little rebound. Sometimes these barn finds take alot to get back into shape.

My 2019 X-TX down pipe heat shield is starting to crack. I have two complete heat shield sets in my spare parts collection but I was hoping not to have to use one set already.
Hopefully the BOP heat shield Travis is supplying will work with headers for future use.

They aren't cheap from yamaha either. My original cracked, purchased replacement from yamaha and it cracked first ride. Now I just use some fiberglass heat tape and go fully around the cracks. Works ok but every month or so I have to retape it.

Very common issue. Factory shields are junk. Need one that can withstand space shuttle launch, especially for headers.

I'm still on my original '17. Must have been a costly prototype.
But yes, I have a spare. I don't know about expensive it was only $27 from eBay.

Good sheet metal guy can bang you out a new one in no time at all.. They just need old one to use as pattern…

True, take a 1/2hr. Wonder what material & thickness would work?!?!Good sheet metal guy can bang you out a new one in no time at all.. They just need old one to use as pattern…
Stainless steel would definitely hold up better. Not sure if it could be had in a waffle type pattern. I'm sure the thought process behind the aluminum was a weight and cost savings. Albeit the stainless probably wouldn't weight much more because a thinner gauge could be used

Your right on the money with cost savings and weight.. Stainless harder to form and more costly but would be stronger.. 040 would be my choice if trying to make by hand…Stainless steel would definitely hold up better. I've got a brand new shield and I've got this aluminum back muffler insulation.
I could press it tight and form the inside of the factory shield and then rivet it in place, with large head rivets.
Any downside as to why that wouldn't work?

I have same stuff and wonder the same thing. I wonder if the adhesive can handle the extreme heat of the header, or will it burn up and allow the shield material to become detached from the stock shield and just lay on headers under stock shield. Don't want that. DEI says this shield can withstand direct heat of 1400 F.I've got a brand new shield and I've got this aluminum back muffler insulation.
